Hi Daniel,

See the attachments. Thanks for your prompt reply

It happened again, right after the changes you suggested.

How else can I help?

Thanks,

Ken

Would be glad to test in detail.

Logseq only added in past 3 weeks. Other apps used for over a year (with
updates).

[Bug 2058118] [NEW] CPU usage too high. System either stops for a minute or greatly lags

2024-03-16 Thread Ken Wagner
Public bug reported:

CPU usage for gnome-shell skyrockets 25% to over 125%. System stops for
a minute or longer. Other times everything lags and stutters.

1. Does not matter if I use X.org or Nvidia (470 tested release for my GT720
card with two monitors).
2. Turning Gnome Extensions on and off doesn't help.
3. Using Ubuntu 23.10.Updated regularly.
4. This issue started about 7 months ago.

I expect the halts and stutters to go away. Nothing has helped so far.
I mostly use Firefox 123.0.1, logseq 0.10.7, US Gov weather, Nautilus,
LibreOffice Writer, Thunderbird Email, gedit and text editor (gnome) and VS
Code + Rust 1.76. Doesn't matter on using or not using any of these apps. I
usually have 4-5 workspaces over my two monitors.

Kindly advise. Glad to help if I can. What else would you like to know?

Thanks,

Ken Wagner

[Bug 1876479] Re: Video scrolling is choppy, stutters. 340, 390, 435, 440 drivers tested.

2020-05-30 Thread Ken Wagner
Solution Found!!

After many, many hours installing & reinstalling Ubuntu 20.04 and
customizing my setup.

Serendipity struck!!

I quit the "System Load Indicator" installed via the Snap Store and
***VOILA!!*** stuttering all gone.

Yet this same app works just fine in 16.04 & 18.04.

Is there a fix other than not using it? I run it all the time to monitor
CPU, memory & internet usage.

Thanks,

Ken Wagner

Nautilus can't see other wireless computers, or if it can see them it
will not connect to them.

No wireless connection happens.

On rare occasions the two computers will connect wirelessly after a half
our or hour of waiting.

[Bug 1740180] Re: Firefox stops loading Farmville 2 and hangs.

2019-03-21 Thread Ken Wagner
apport information

** Description changed:

STR: Start Firefox (56 or 57), go to Facebook. Start Farmville 2.
Farmville 2 hangs while loading. Never plays.

The Adobe Flash Player is properly installed. Has also been re-
  installed. Ditto for FireFox.

Does not matter if using Ubuntu 16.04 or 17.10.

Farmville 2 via Facebook in Firefox hangs. Also will not work if run
from the Zynga URL (the makers of Farmville 2. Other Facebook games work
  well. Try "Pearl's Perils."

Happy to help with testing if you like. This has been tested on both
  desktops and laptops.

  Thanks,

  Ken Wagner

Re: [Bug 1740180] Re: Firefox stops loading Farmvile 2 and hangs.

2017-12-27 Thread Ken Wagner
Hi Eduardo,

Yes. With Chrome Farmville sometimes works but eventually gets stuck.

With Opera the same problems or it just won't load.

Ken

[Bug 1740180] [NEW] Firefox stops loading Farmvile 2 and hangs.

2017-12-26 Thread Ken Wagner
Public bug reported:

STR: Start Firefox (56 or 57), go to Facebook. Start Farmville 2.
Farmville 2 hangs while loading. Never plays.

The Adobe Flash Player is properly installed. Has also been re-
installed. Ditto for FireFox.

Does not matter if using Ubuntu 16.04 or 17.10.

Farmville 2 via Facebook in Firefox hangs. Also will not work if run
from the Zynga URL (the makers of Farmville 2. Other Facebook games work
well. Try "Pearl's Perils."

Happy to help with testing if you like. This has been tested on both
desktops and laptops.

Thanks,

Ken Wagner

2017-11-07 Thread Ken Wagner
Followed https://blog.danielscrivano.com/installing-rtl8812au-on-linux-
for-wireless-dual-band-usb-adapters/

sudo modprobe 8812au Does not work. Fatal error.

instead copy 8812au.ko to /lib/modules/4.10.0-38-generic
(On my computer).

Then it worked. Will keep an eye on it after updates and upgrades.

HTH.

Cheers,
Ken

Is there a workaround that does not require constantly re-installing

Thank you.

Still having issue on 16.04.1. Even after updates and a dist-upgrade.

Are we any closer to a resolution?

Or is there a reliable workaround?

Thanks.

Hi Brian,

Sent along an apport report.

Not sure quite how this works.

Will to glad to run any tests you like. I just did a 4.8.0 kernel

[Bug 1624026] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 has no sound after a suspend

2016-09-16 Thread Ken Wagner
apport information

** Description changed:

This has been a problem on 3 different computers running Ubuntu 14.04
  since it came out.

After a Suspend, the system comes back up WITHOUT sound of any sort.

One system has a Dell SoundBlaster card. Works great normally.

Another system uses the on-board HDA chipset and it works great.

The third system does the same thing.

Used alsamixer settings, killing pulse audio so it can restart, alsa
force-restart and a lot of Ubuntu forums, Ask Ubuntu and some super user
sites / forums suggested fixes. No luck.

What can be done? I am more than willing to work with a tech and
  troubleshoot the systems.

  Thanks, Ken Wagner

Re: [Bug 1624026] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 has no sound after a suspend

2016-09-16 Thread Ken Wagner
Hi Joseph,

I installed the upstream 4.8.0 kernel (AMD64). No change.

Kernel-bug-exists-upstream.

No sure just where to tag this?

Can you elucidate? Thanks.

Glad to do anything else you'd like.

** Attachment added: "WifiSyslog.txt"

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1624026/+attachment/4742258/+files/WifiSyslog.txt

[Bug 1624026] [NEW] Ubuntu 14.04 has no sound after a suspend

2016-09-15 Thread Ken Wagner
Public bug reported:

Experienced this problem after accidental Super + P combo.

Now, no more volume Up or Down and Ctrl + Alt + T is recast as duplicate
tab in FireFox or if FireFox is not running nothing happens.

Bizarre and very, very frustrating.

How to fix?

Thanks Ken Wagner

that and reformatted the HD to ext4 and swap.

So, this is now a Ubuntu ONLY laptop.

[Bug 1520799] [NEW] Shutdown hangs or locks up.

2015-11-28 Thread Ken Wagner
Public bug reported:

Toshiba Laptop C55-5240X. Cannot shut down. Hangs at splash or "Will
now halt."

Actually, this may be a solution.

Installed Ubuntu 14.04.3 - No shutdown. Same with Ubuntu 14.04.2.
(amd64, both)

After numerous re-installs with .3 and .2 above. No luck. Changed BIOS to CSM
(No Secure boot and No UEFI)
Now the computer ran but hung on shutdown.

Finally (With BIOS at CSM, no Secure boot and no UEFI), I tried my old original
Ubuntu 14.04. (amd64).
After initial install the laptop would shutdown normally.
Then ran the updates. Shutdown still OK.

Seems odd that an initial 14.04, amd64 install is needed since the
14.04.2 and 14.04.3 installs fail.

Hope this helps. I would very much appreciate an explanation.

Thanks,

Ken Wagner

Re: [Bug 1460845] Re: Installer crashed.

2015-06-01 Thread Ken Wagner
Sorry for an error.

This error happened on a computer I was working on, NOT this one.

How do I get this terminal process to work over THERE??

I gave my permission for this computer to access my LaunchPad account.

It should have been done on the OTHER computer.

How to fix?

Thanks,

Ken Wagner

To the people who think that's the right thing to do: please try to
weigh the potential harm caused by delaying Vivid a day or so against
the actual harm of having thousands of long-time users' desktops

[Bug 1012465] Re: package bandwidthd 2.0.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-removal script returned error exit status 2

2012-06-13 Thread Ken Wagner
Found out how to fix it:

1. In a Terminal do whereis bandwidthd
2. Remove all instances of the bandwidth files, including any type designations
like ...conf.
(cd to the listed directories then in each directory do sudo rm
bandwidthd where = any filetype extensions if they exist.)
3. Use sudo apt-get install bandwidthd. It will most likely fail to install.
4. Then use sudo apt-get remove bandwidthd

Hope this help you out.

[Bug 1012465] [NEW] package bandwidthd 2.0.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-removal script returned error exit status 2

2012-06-12 Thread Ken Wagner
Public bug reported:

I installed bandwidthd via USC. It would not run in a terminal.
Next, I uninstalled it.
Then I used the SourceForge deb file and installed it.
This failed.
I started up USC to see what it would show for bandwidthd. It only offered a
reinstall. Which I did.
This, too, failed.
The only USC choice it offered was reinstall. This would not change no matter
whether I picked reinstall or not.
Went to the SourceForge deb file's directory.
Ran both remove and purge using sudo dpgk. Also tried to reinstall.
Nothing works.

bandwidthd is partially installed, damaged and unresponsive to removing.

How to fix??

Thanks,

Ken Wagner

[Bug 772278] [NEW] Lucid 10.04 LTS randomly locks up

2011-04-28 Thread Ken Wagner
Public bug reported:

Lucid Lynx 10.04 LTS 32-bit PAE repeatedly locks up. It usually happens
when using the mouse or the mouse buttons.

Solid freeze. Only way out is to power off then restart. Have tried
Chromium vs FireFox 3.6 and various other changes.

Nothing has worked. Locks up anywhere from once or twice a day to
several times a day (5,6, or more.)

Unable to tell which package is causing the lock-ups.

Happy to run any tests you like. So far no common thread. It is not
hardware since I can restore and old image of Karmic and run all day.
Well, at least it does not seem to be hardware. Windows and Karmic never
locked up.

Thanks,
