Since Ubuntu 19.04, I can not use Ubuntu on my VMware virtual machines on my
MacBook Pro Retina (200% scaling). The desktop is white. This still occurs
under Ubuntu 19.10 (even with a clean install).
I hope this problem will be resolved quickly. I want to migrate to a newer
version than my
sdezial notes this being terser. I do the long form out of superstitious awe
at the notion of a return code of zero being "true", even though it always

I'm running Ubuntu 18.04 on a 2015 Macbook Pro, 13" with a newish
replacement battery that charages and runs down completely normally for
it's specs. I only see a 18% charge when fully charged event though it
will run for ours under load. Additionally, remaining life shows 0:40
minutes. Glad I
For what it's worth, my kids encountered this on two desktops today,
moving from 16.04 to 18.04. As this would be a major issue for non-
technical folk I'd urge getting the fix out the door sooner rather than
later - especially on 18.04, to preserve LTS as being a safe choice.

workaround. It appears to be

It looks like /etc/init.d/ondemand doesn't have any support for the
performance governor at all. On systems that only have "performance" and
"powersave" the only thing /etc/init.d/ondemand will do is set the
governor to powersave.
I'll file the appropriate bug against the initscripts package.

Looking at the kernel CPUFreq Governors documentation[1], It looks like
powersave is actually a pretty poor default value for many applications,
but especially servers.
I'm not sure about low-power applications like laptops, and how power
usage is affected by frequency on other architectures.

In addition to the typo, there may be an issue where the new setting I
poked in is used, but the hardcoded default is still displayed on-
screen. I've not been able to capture this on camera as yet, and I have

I just confirmed that I see this on a laptop as well. Conveniently, the
laptop install is not using MD-RAID or ZFS - it's using LVM on LUKS on a

This works fantastically, with the one small problem that the
flexiserver allows other users to log in. Typically locking the screen
means only the logged in user can unlock it. However, I support the idea
that the display manager should be handling screen locks rather than
xscreensaver.
