Hi all,

I git-cloned the source and created a quick and dirty patch that should
fix the issue, at least in spots. For me, now I can browse tables
without warnings, and use export functionality.

I am not sure if there are more incompatibilities, but these are the
ones I faced just today.

This still seems to exit. I am trying to install Ubuntu Server 18.10 on
a Intel C202 based server, and although the installer sees and activates
the MDADM it finds, installing the boot loader simply fails.

successfully upgrading (fingers crossed) from Zesty to Artful.

In my opinion, the bug here is that once the distribution one is running
goes end-of-life, there is no user-friendly way to upgrade to the next
distro. Also in my opinion, the "update-manager -c" command should offer
the sources.list file modifications, or at least provide a link to the
page, instead of leaving users in the dark.

Confirming both that the issue exists and that the patch does the trick.

as-is into the 1.18.1-0ubuntu2 source code (although offset is -4 rows)
works - I just opened the Downloads folder from Firefox.

Right, I don't know if this is correct, but I'm going to switch the
package affected to caja as it is the package that needs the patch, not
Firefox... Please correct my actions when necessary.

This is still an issue in 12.04.

In order to have scanbuttond (and saned, should I need it in the future)
run as user saned, I had to add udev rule:

99-libsane.rules

Before the rule:

I'm tired of banging my head against this now that it works, so could please 
somebody test the following things:
- Does the group 'saned' exist after fresh install and after installing 'sane'
- Does the group 'scanner' exist after fresh install and after installing 'sane'
- Does the user 'saned' belong to group 'scanner'

Footnote: Should user 'saned' also belong to group 'lp' in order to
print using scanbuttond's buttonpressed.sh script?

Yes, it's usbfs locking the device. This is from my syslog:

1) Plug in scanner (I have Canon CanoScan LiDE 25)
2) Start Simple Scan
3) Set scanning mode to Text
4a) Start scanning a page
4b) Observe that the page is scanned in b/w
4c) Abort the scan
5) Delete the scanned page
6) Confirm that the scanning mode is Text
7) Start scanning the page again

What should happen:
8) Page scans in b/w

What happens:
8) Page scans in color

I'm running 10.10/AMD64 from live USB key. I disabled the CD-ROM
repository from sources.list, did apt-get update and apt-get install
simple-scan. At this point I discovered this bug.

Workaround:
Close and open Simple Scan. The drawback is that one loses the partial set of 
pages scanned.

I second. However, the UI changes, if we remove a whole element. I
suggest that the bar background was visible, but the handle was
removed. This way the UI location wouldn't change, and the

Description: Exaile playlist flashes rapidly a few times randomly when
changing songs. It's fast, and hard to see even when it happens, but it
seems that the track number column # dissapears for a split second.
Compiz doesn't affect situation.

Expected behaviour: No visual glitches when changing song, just the
correct row bold-texted.

Reproducability: Seldom, say once every ten to twenty times. Add some
songs to playlist and start either double-clicking on different songs,
or click next/prev buttons. Sooner or later, the playlist window (IMHO)
hides the # column for a split second, causing blink effect.

Berbhard, what hardware do you have? Also, I think we should have
separate bugs for separate releases (what's the usual policy in those
cases, anyway?)

I know, I don't have Macbook, but GM965... xserver-xorg-video-intel
updated to 2.9.0 today (yesterday?) and the problem is fixed for me now.
Bryce Harrington, could you update Karmic and post the results? I'm NOT
marking as worksforme, because this is originally Macbook-releated bug.

The last time I checked it, it was there, now it isn't... The weird
thing is, that the backlight control actually works as expected (using
quick keys), for me, without xrandr --prop showing anything...

This also affects Opera (10.00.4585.gcc4.qt4) on Ubuntu Karmic/AMD64.

I am not 100% certain, but I have been suffering about this using
Metacity, too. Could this be issue outside Flash/browsers? Something
like Xorg drivers? KMS? Opinions?

I just discovered a very disturbing thing. See this little musically
addictive flash:

The buttons are supposed to stay black, until clicked. Then the button
turns white (producing sound intervally). When trying this on Ubuntu,
the whole flash blinks semi-randomly with high speed, as click was
delivered to every button at the same time; however the buttons don't
ever get pressed... Very confusing!

What's even more confusing, is that I could reproduce the problem with
all other combinations of browsers (Opera, Firefox and Epiphany) and
window managers (Compiz and Metacity) except Opera with Compiz...

I think I'll get some sleep and continue isolating the problem at later
time...

However, that doesn't work. The options I have for xrandr
BACKLIGHT_CONTROL are native, legacy, combination and kernel, and none
of them makes any difference.

The only difference to my comment #2 is that now I can see and select
different backlight control methods. (Should have written xrandr --prop
instead...)

I'm closing this bug, since now the BACKLIGHT_CONTROL property is
visible and usable. Not still being able to adjust the backlight is a

Francesco, what's the outcome of doing that? Does the file now appear on
the recent menu? I'm not planning to download/install/try Kubuntu, so I
can't try it... Also, the bug is also in KDE bugs (see Remote bug
watches). Also, the actions you mentioned - should it work - seems to
only be a workaround... The behavior would still be non-intuitive, so
the code still needs to be fixed.

Confirming on Acer Aspire 2920 w/ Intel 965GM, Karmic up-to-date.

When using Fn-Left or Fn-Right to adjust brightness, the bar on the
screen moves, but display does not change. *).

Running xorg --prop is missing backlight control. However:

So, DD01, DD02, DD04 and DD05 claim not to support backlight, but DD03

*) The brightness DOES change, when trying to reduce brightness when
/proc/acpi/video/GFX03/brightness is already at minimum (10), or when
trying to increase brightness when the bar it's at maximum (100). Then
brightness changes to dim or bright. Is that really minimum and maximum
brightness, I really can't tell...

Still using kernel 2.6.31.11.22. This time I repeatedly tested
suspending. The story is the same as above - I have to wait some 20
seconds before the computer enters suspend mode.

However, after both suspend and hibernate, I have to wait some 1-2
minutes, before automatically reconnecting to network (I can right-click
NetworkManager icon and choose Enable networking, which gives me
immediate results) or even noticing plugged or removed laptop power
cord!

So, something is causing the delay. What would be the best approach to
pinpointing the cause of delay?

Using Karmic daily build, installed yesterday and keeping it up-to-date.
Note: The computer is not Acer Aspire 2920Z, but 2920 (which is hard to come 
by, at least here in Finland). Suspend/hibernation used to work with 9.04. I 
think KMS/UXA might have something to do with it...

Problem #1: Computer enters suspend after minutes instead of seconds
after initiating the action from user/power menu. It may enter suspend
mode even after I enter my password and continue my work - suddenly,
without warning. It gets up OK, though...

Problem #2: It also seems, that the computer won't enter in hibernation
(or I just got bored of waiting, haha)

Reproducible: To me, every time.

I updated to kernel 2.6.31.11.22, with no or little change...

I tested hibernate multiple times now, and it works fine (at least 3D,
wifi + LEDs and sound works...), it just takes ages before RAM is
beginning to be dumped to disk. I can move cursor around for some 20
seconds before there is any activity.

Also, when the write-to-disk phase begins, the screen goes black for a
second and comes back. So, I'll watch the frozen desktop until powered
off. I don't consider this a bug, but it's sure beats the blinking
cursor on black background (KVM, again?)

Configming. Steps to reproduce:
* Install from desktop live cd (32-bit in my case)
* Update packages
* Insert DVD
* Choose to open with Totem
* Totem tells that GStreamer is missing a plugin (I think, I'm currently at 
Finnish desktop)

(If Totem first tries and installs some decoders is unknown to me, since
I had some codecs downloaded beforehand...)

This is truly annoying. Plus, Ogle isn't found anymore in default
repositories...

The bug just dissappeared for me at some point... I had all forgotten
about this!

Nothing special about my installation... If I remember correctly, I was
using 7.10 alpha version. At least the locale was Finnish UTF-8. I
remember seeing the bug even when using the live CD, and after
installation and updates of that time, too. I silently blame the early
alphas for the bug.

I wish I had time to grab the 7.10 CD and put it to test... Mabye later
this week...

Configuring some plugins crashes Evolution.

How to reproduce:
1) Open Evolution
2a) Edit - Plugins - Attachment Reminder - Configure OR
2a) Edit - Plugins - Custom Header - Configure
3) Click add button
4) Type some text, do not press enter
5) Click add button again
6) Kaboom!

If enter key is pressed after step 4), the crash does not occur.
However, plugin Templates has similar but multi-fielded list, procuding
the same steps don't make Evolution crash.

Using Jaunty, Evolution 2.25.91. No debug messages are generated, just
memory overflow notice.

PS. This bug seems the kind of that could exist in many places... So far
I haven't been able to reproduce it in any other places.

First, having Alt-!, Alt-@ and so on in tabs menu is wrong, and it
doesn't let the user follow the logic 1 for first tab, 2 for second
tab etc., instead it makes the user look for the non-numeric
characters, causing confusion among non-exprerienced users.

Second, have a look at eg. New Tab and Close Tab shortcut entries -
Ctrl-Shift-T and Ctrl-Shift-W are given.

My point is that if a shortcut requires pressing Ctrl, Shift and number
1 keys, they should be all displayed, instead of the character some
combination may give and not including one or more required keys!

Does this behaviour occur in any other Gnome programs? At least Gnome's
own shortcut manager application shows Alt-Shift-1 as Alt-Shift-! which
is not as bad but not right...

Using Jaunty alpha 4, updating packages daily.

I use irssi a lot, using gnome-terminal. By default irssi uses Alt+num
to change windows, gnome-terminal uses Alt+num to change tabs. When
multiple tabs are open, Alt+num keypress is catched by gnome-terminal,
so I decided to bind tab keys differently:

Alt-Shift-1 - Tab 1
Alt-Shift-2 - Tab 2
etc.

The keypresses function just fine, but they are displayed like this:

Alt-Shift-1 - Alt-!
Alt-Shift-2 - Alt-@
etc. (depends on keymap used)

This behavious is, in my opinion, wrong.

The script has been proven to work, for me as well, but I'l like to see
a module parameter for this. Something like

led=[transmit|assoc|radio|off]

would do the job. Also it would be nice if the led would blink only
after, say, 2KiB or 4KiB of data being transmitted/received. IMHO it's
not necessary to have it blink in every single brodcast message
received. Perhaps different data limits on TX and RX..?

I discovered a way to treat wmaster devices as dummy devices, but Loic
Minier nailed it in June already. Darn, I'm still too slow. :-P:

I have the same issue using 8.10 and iwl3945. Netspeed sometimes starts
to monitor wmaster0 device, even though wlan0 is the right choise.

Workaround is to untick the automatic selection, but this requires
change every time connected device changes.
