OK, on further investigation - it does seem to be something to do with thumbnails/previews. Turning off the "browse removable media when inserted" option in the volume management settings fixes it. I can insert the drive, it is automatically mounted, and i can then eject straight away. Manually

Sorry, should have mentioned I'm getting an "eject failed - Failed to eject "1.0GB Filesystem"" dialog box plus a bubble/notification saying "writing data to device". lsof shows tumblerd is accessing a .flv file in the root of my usb pen drive. Is this related to showing thumbnails in thunar? Su
