[Bug 1808710] Re: !xcb_xlib_threads_sequence_lost error with GTK2 applications

2019-10-01 Thread Peter S
I have the same problem with eboard 1.1.3 on Debian Buster. The program
build is quite old (2016), hence it seems that the problem is with some
high-level library.

[Bug 1589401] Re: cannot view wifi networks after re-enabling wifi

2017-03-01 Thread Peter S
It definitely could be. Personally, I think many of the issues mentioned
above are completely unrelated to Network Manager. Those cases should be
excluded from a bug report. Therefore I suggest that everyone who's
having problems check their beacon interval settings.

2016-11-05 Thread Peter S
If people keep whining about bugs in network-manager, without even
trying WICD (or the like) for a couple of weeks, this thread is
meaningless!

I'm still not sure that the problems I experience are completely
unrelated to network-manager. I seem to have a more stable connection
with WICD, so far. But I have to try it for another few weeks before I
can say anything for sure.

I'm eager to hear other members of this thread sharing their experience
with WICD (see #109 for installation intructions). Especially those with
a Intel wifi chip. If the the same connectivity issues remain in WICD, I
assume we could abandon the idea that these issues are to be derived to
network-manager, couldn't we?

[Bug 1589401] Re: cannot view wifi networks after re-enabling wifi

2016-10-28 Thread Peter S
I'm starting to doubt that network-manager is the root of all this mess.
Have any of you tried using WICD instead (an alternative network
manager)? I seem to have the same connectivity issues there. And just as
with network-manager, they appear at random.

Here's an instruction:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WICD

I still consider this a bug though, since all my other devices on the
same wifi network are working flawlessly. Couldn't it be some bad
implementation of the Intel Wifi driver within the kernel?

[Bug 1589401] Re: cannot view wifi networks after re-enabling wifi

2016-08-27 Thread Peter S
A complete re-installation of the entire operating system seems to have
done the trick for me (call it a workaround if you want)! I used the
exact same source (i.e. Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS 64 bit from a USB stick) and
connecteded my wifi during installation. I also restored my home folder
(including configuration files). Voilà, no longer any arrows in the
applet tray or other connection issues! The network also returns
immediately after suspend. I have only used this configuration for two
days, so I can't leave any guarantees. I will return, though, if any
errors reoccur.

[Bug 1218815] Re: [radeon] Graphic glitches and screen corruption (vertical lines) on XMir surfaces only

2013-09-14 Thread Peter S
It seems to work together with the proprietary fglrx drivers, though.

[Bug 1138577] Re: banshee-extension-streamrecorder hangs banshee on startup

2013-09-07 Thread Peter S
 Does merely installing this package cause banshee to hang, or must the
extension be enabled first?

Installing is no problem, enabling it causes banshee to hang a few minutes
later.
Banshee will hang again after a few seconds when killed and restarted.
Changing Addin id=Banshee.Streamrecorder,0.2.2beta enabled=True / to
False in /home/ubuntu/.config/banshee-1/addin-db-001/config.xml helps.

http://askubuntu.com/questions/13181/how-do-i-record-internet-radio-
stream-from-banshee might suggest that this is caused by Streamrecorder
expecting a nonexistent preconfigured path. I do not know how that is
stored, though.

[Bug 620439] [NEW] Foreign characters cause crash

2010-08-19 Thread Peter S
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: radiotray

As I add new stations in Radiotray with names with Swedish characters in
them (like å, ä and ö) the program crashes and the stations are not
added. If I first add a station without these characters and put the
foreign characters in the title afterwards, the program accepts them.

[Bug 605041] Re: High usage of the cpu - up to 100%

2010-08-15 Thread Peter S
Seems like it was a program I installed that was keeping the CPU
working... I removed an extremly cpu intensive program called 'boinc'
and went back to normal. Too bad it didn't show up in the System
Monitor. If you want to see ALL the processes you're running, installi
htop. Open a terminal and type:

 sudo apt-get install htop

Run it:

 htop

Look for cpu consuming processes (at the top). Try killing them with:

 sudo killall [name_of_process]

Good luck!

 Could you please resolve this bug by updating the man page to tell
 users, that the timeout parameter does not work with Notify-OSD? That
 would save people like me from wasting time on this in the future.

[Bug 337945] Re: [Jaunty] MacBook 5.1 keyboard backlight not supported

2010-05-09 Thread Peter S.
However i am able to control the brightness width the following command:

sudo echo 180 | sudo tee
/sys/devices/platform/applesmc.768/leds/smc::kbd_backlight/brightness

Where 180 is the brightness, it goes from 0 to 255.

Any way to bind it to the keyboard backlight keys?

[Bug 337945] Re: [Jaunty] MacBook 5.1 keyboard backlight not supported

2010-05-09 Thread Peter S.
I found a solution:

I made a script, with that i can control the brightness:

st...@stoto-laptop:~$ cat backlight.sh
#!/bin/bash

$act
act=`cat /sys/devices/platform/applesmc.768/leds/smc::kbd_backlight/brightness`
echo $1
case $1 in
inc)
if [[ $act -lt 255 ]]; then
act=$((act+5))
echo $act | tee
/sys/devices/platform/applesmc.768/leds/smc::kbd_backlight/brightness
fi
;;

dec)
if [[ $act -gt 4 ]]; then
act=$((act-5))
echo $act | tee
/sys/devices/platform/applesmc.768/leds/smc::kbd_backlight/brightness
fi
;;

*) echo Usage: inc or dec
;;
esac

Save the script somewhere. I saved in my home, and made a symlink to
/bin/backlight.sh but its optional
I binded it to the brightness control keys in:

System - Preferences - Keyboard Shortcuts

Make 2 Custom shortcuts with the add button:
-BrightnessUp, command: /bin/backlight.sh inc
-BrightnessDown, command: /bin/backlight.sh dec

This is only working if you have access to the brightness control file.
Putting sudo in the command won't work, it works with gksudo, but then
you will have massive amounts of windows popping up when you hold the
brightness control key.

So the best solution i found:
sudo chmod 777
/sys/devices/platform/applesmc.768/leds/smc::kbd_backlight/brightness

It works like a charm.

[Bug 337945] Re: [Jaunty] MacBook 5.1 keyboard backlight not supported

2010-05-09 Thread Peter S.
I had to make a little modification for the script so it will work after
reboot too:

st...@stoto-laptop:~$ cat backlight.sh
#!/bin/bash

if [ `ls -al
/sys/devices/platform/applesmc.768/leds/smc::kbd_backlight/brightness | awk
{'print $1'}` !=  -rwxrwxrwx ]; then
gksudo chmod 777
/sys/devices/platform/applesmc.768/leds/smc::kbd_backlight/brightness
fi

$act
act=`cat /sys/devices/platform/applesmc.768/leds/smc::kbd_backlight/brightness`
echo $1
case $1 in
inc)
if [[ $act -lt 255 ]]; then
act=$((act+5))
echo $act | tee
/sys/devices/platform/applesmc.768/leds/smc::kbd_backlight/brightness
#else
#notify-send -t 50 Keyboard backlight is on maximum!
fi
;;

dec)
if [[ $act -gt 4 ]]; then
act=$((act-5))
echo $act | tee
/sys/devices/platform/applesmc.768/leds/smc::kbd_backlight/brightness
#else
#notify-send -t 50 Keyboard backlight is off.
fi
;;

*) echo Usage: inc or dec
;;
esac

The else and the notify-send is commented out, because of a bug in notify-osd
package. This bug causes notify-osd to ignore the timeout settings.

[Bug 58241] Re: m-x debian-bug doesn't point to ubuntu instead

2010-05-07 Thread Peter S Galbraith
V33.5 of debian-el will have a debian-bug.el that supports an alternate
BTS using either the Bugs field in the control file for a given PACKAGE,
or the Send-To field in the file /usr/share/bug/PACKAGE/control.

See http://bugs.debian.org/222392

Does that work for Ubuntu?

(Pretty quiet here... I have posted fixes a while back and there's no
response...)
