[Bug 1838151] Re: Poor quality audio with modern Bluetooth headsets in HSP/HFP. Missing wide band speech support (Bluetooth A2DP codecs).
I think the problem was in the headphones. I found I was having trouble on my phone as well. I contacted Sony support and they had me try a soft reset of the headset, which seems to have restored function. I am still getting bad mic sound on bluetooth, but I think it is just the low quality sound on this thread and not the completely muffled sound I was getting before. I will try reconnecting to the DG80 now and see if it is any better. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1838151 Title: Poor quality audio with modern Bluetooth headsets in HSP/HFP. [Bug 1838151] Re: Poor quality audio with modern Bluetooth headsets in HSP/HFP. Missing wide band speech support (Bluetooth A2DP codecs).
I can't seem to get the DG80 working correctly under PopOS 20.10. It works great for listening to music (though that worked directly on bluetooth without issues) but I can't seem to get the correct mode for talk. Since you say you have success with it, I will play with it some more before returning it and see if I can get it set up properly. It is probably some kind of configuration thing on my end, but I was hoping it would solve my microphone problems. As it stands, my best option is using the headset with my phone for Teams calls--the sound works perfectly there. If I find the right magic, I'll reply again here.
I installed pulseaudio-modules-bt and it does give some new options for sound output and possibly better sound, but microphone sound quality was still iffy. Recorded sound on Audacity seemed better and was slightly louder (according to the DB meter), but a test call on Microsoft Teams was still muffled and unintelligible. I have ordered a Avantree DG80 dongle (which makes the bluetooth connection externally and appears to linux as usb audio) and will hopefully be able to continue working with that, but I would love to see this problem resolved in pulseaudio. For the record, I am using a Sony WH-1000XM4 headset on PopOS 20.10 running on a System76 Darter Pro. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1838151 Title: Poor quality audio with modern Bluetooth headsets in HSP/HFP. [Bug 1583821] [NEW] Applications shuffling around on desktops after screen lock
Public bug reported: I use multiple desktops to organize open applications. Also, I am currently using multiple monitors. If I arrange my applications (e.g. Chrome on the laptop screen of desktop one, Geany on the attached monitor on desktop 1, another chrome on the laptop screen of desktop 2, another app on the attached monitor on desktop 2) and then lock the screen, when I unlock all of the applications have moved around. Sometimes they all move to desktop 1, sometimes they are resized and half off the screen. But they are rarely on the same screen and desktop that I left them on. [Bug 1110787] Re: VPN tunnel connections are not properly setting MTU values
I am still seeing this problem in 14.10, even installed fresh on a new laptop. I have found a workaround that takes care of the problem automatically, though. There is a 1412 mtu hardcoded in /etc/vpnc/vpnc- script, but that may not be relevant to network manager so I didn't mess with that script. The NetworkManager man page notes that any scripts placed in /etc/NetworkManager/dispatcher.d will run when network connections go up and down, and that they will receive the name of the interface and the action as parameters to the script. So I placed the following script in that directory under the name 70vpnMtuCorrection (the scripts run in alpha order, and there was already one more there so I wanted this one to run later...but you can call it anything else you like and it should still work). The script needs to be owned by root and executable by all (so use sudo to save it and execute a chmod a+x on the file). The script determines if the tun0 interface is coming up, if we have a wlan0 connection, calculates the necessary mtu value, and resets it if the MTU value needs to be decreased. This seems to be handling my issue, but I would still prefer to see that it is handled properly by network manager in the first place. But if you are having the same problem, this should remove a pesky annoyance like it is doing for me: /etc/vpnc/vpnc-script/70vpnMtuCorrection: #!/bin/bash TUN0_INTERFACE_NAME=tun0 WLAN0_INTERFACE_NAME=wlan0 VPN_UP_ACTION_NAME=vpn-up MTU_DIFFERENCE=78 INTERFACE_NAME=${1} ACTION=${2} if [ ${INTERFACE_NAME} != ${TUN0_INTERFACE_NAME} ] then exit 0 fi if [ ${ACTION} != ${VPN_UP_ACTION_NAME}] then exit 0 fi #Make sure we have a current TUN0 entry before we continue. [Bug 1134525] [NEW] Network Manager Applet does not list VPN connections after login
Public bug reported: I use vpnc through network manager. When I start up my laptop, at the login screen the network manager finds my wifi connection and connects before login. That is all good. But when I log in and then click on the network manager applet to try and connect to a VPN connection, my VPN connections are not listed. The VPN Connections list is empty. If I disable and then re-enable wireless, the connections show up. I assume this is a permissions issue...The VPN connections list must be populated before I log in, and the connection I am looking for is not set to be available to all users. I am on ubuntu 12.10 with an up-to-date system (3.5.0-25-generic #39-Ubuntu SMP Mon Feb 25 18:26:58 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux). [Bug 1110787] [NEW] VPN tunnel connections are not properly setting MTU values
Public bug reported: I regularly connect to a cisco anyconnect vpn using vpnc through the network manager. I am often at various different location using wifi, including connecting via wifi to a cellular hotspot. Usually, when connecting to a WIFI connection the MTU value (on the wifi connection) is 1500. When connecting to the vpn, the MTU value of the tun0 connection is set automatically and it usually sets itself to something like 1412. This works with no problem. When the wifi connection has a lower MTU value (and the cellular hotspot usually has an MTU of 1430, as do connections in various coffee shops), the tun0 connection still sets itself to 1412. For read-intensive operations (e.g. accessing websites and downloading pages, pulling from a subversion repository) there is no apparent problem. But when attempting to post to a web page (for instance, writing a bug report in bugzilla) or commit to a repository over the VPN, the connection will fail. The MTU value for a VPN connections seems to want to be 78 less than the MTU value of the connection that it is working over, and having MTU greater than this causes the upload failures. I use the VPN via the network manager (using network-manager-vpnc and network-manager-vpnc-gnome). I am able to work around the issue by setting the MTU value of the VPN connection manually from the command line after connecting with the following command: sudo ifconfig tun0 mtu 1330 It is tedious to do this each time, but it does allow me to successfully upload or commit when connected. (I also find that RDP connections fail much less often when the MTU is set correctly.) I should note that I pick an MTU value that is 100 less than the MTU value of the WIFI connection--it should be 78 but I opt for the easier math and don't really notice the difference. And for those that don't know, you can find the current MTU value of your connections by issuing the ifconfig command. If you do not have access to a cellular hotspot or other wifi connection that has a low MTU value, it is likely you can replicate this issue by manually setting the primary network connection's MTU value to 1430 (using the above command) though I have not tried to replicate it under these conditions. Ideally, the VPN connection would properly calculate an appropriate MTU value to use with the network adapter it will be communicating over. Perhaps it is trying that and simply cannot identify the proper connection--while writing this it occurs to me that the eth0 connection has an MTU value of 1500 even though I don't have a network cable plugged in, but lowering the eth0 MTU value had no effect on the tun0 MTU value chosen when I connected to VPN over the WIFI connection. To replicate the error: * connect to a wifi connection that gives you an MTU value of 1430 * connect to VPN using vpnc via network manager * verify that the MTU value of your tun0 connection was set to 1412 * Attempt a large upload (a large file, a large bugzilla comment or other html form submission, or a sizeable svn commit) and it should fail Important version info requested: Ubuntu 12.10 vpnc is 0.5.3r512-2ubuntu1 network-manager, network-manager-vpnc, and network-manager-vpnc-gnome are all 0.9.6.0-ubuntu1 ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1110787 Title: VPN tunnel connections are not properly setting MTU values To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1110787/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1064493] Re: Indicator-applet Disappears After Closing a Conversation
I am seeing this same behavior with indicators for SpiderOak and BlueProximity. Both have been whitelisted. These indicators are visible when I start the computer, but at some point they disappear (usually after I suspend and resume, but sometimes without a suspend). I can see the indicators if I use CTRL-ALT-ARROW to switch desktops, but only while the desktop switch is taking place...then they disappear again. I cannot access them at all. [Bug 606238] Re: synaptic touchpad not recognized on dell latitude e6510 and others
Dave, I ran your 0.3 and it worked like a charm...no errors at all on either install or reboot. A few items of note: * The PS/2 mouse still appears in my xinput --list. Is that supposed to be the case? * After all the xinput setprops, I do have edge scrolling, but it works about 1/4 inch from the edge. The last 1/4 inch or so does nothing. I'm sure this is just an adjustment to be made somewhere, and it is not really noticeable. * As expected, there is no multitouch. But multiple touches (e.g. hitting with 2 fingers) does not cause any grief or erratic behavior, so it seems to be swallowed properly * I now have the touchpad tab in the mouse settings * I am now running on the 3.5.0-15-generic kernel. I don't think that makes any difference with the -14 kernel I was using before, but if midhat is still having issues it might be worth doing the sudo apt-get dist-upgrade to get this kernel upgrade and see if his problems disappear. In all, a great advance over the out-of-the-box experience I was having (on my Ubuntu Certified laptop). [Bug 606238] Re: synaptic touchpad not recognized on dell latitude e6510 and others
I downloaded Dave's patch in #144 and followed the install instructions in #152. On reboot, my computer would freeze during boot with the ubuntu logo and the row of dots. Attempts to boot into recovery mode also did not complete, with freeze for a minute or so and then a stacktrace/dump scrolling by. I was able to boot into a previous kernel via GRUB with no problem, and this command successfully removed the patch from the primary kernel: sudo dkms remove -m psmouse -v alps-dst-0.1 --all The --all was necessary because I was booted into a different kernel than the one into which this was installed. I am on a Dell N5110 with Ubuntu 12.10 beta, x86_64, kernel 3.5.0-14. I am happy to reproduce and upload any log files that may help. My laptop is only a few months old, so it may be that Dell has decided to put a different (and even more incompatible) version of the ALPS trackpad in. [Bug 606238] Re: synaptic touchpad not recognized on dell latitude e6510 and others
While extreme sensitivity of the trackpad is not a huge deal while clicking around on websites or other non-typing-related activities, I am sure that many others are finding it as frustrating as I am to try and type more than three words without the cursor relocating itself because of an errant click. When I am typing something of more than a few words (such as this comment, for example), I usually disable the trackpad--it is very easy to do from the command line. First, do a xinput command to make sure that the pointer is showing up as a PS/2 Generic Mouse. (You can see this output in comment #120.) Assuming that is the name your trackpad shows up with, the command to disable it is: xinput set-int-prop 'PS/2 Generic Mouse' 'Device Enabled' 8 0 and to reenable, you just issue the following: xinput set-int-prop 'PS/2 Generic Mouse' 'Device Enabled' 8 1 I have these commands in scripts called disabletrackpad.sh and enabletrackpad.sh. Until this gets fixed (and when will that be?) I can use the scripts to disable and re-enable the trackpad so that I can type for long periods without going batsh*t crazy. I hope that helps others with this issue. Postscript: I see that Sam already put this info into comment #95...Perhaps this repeat will help someone find it. Perhaps having another entry in this bug will spur someone to fix it. ;-) And if I get around to writing a single script to toggle the enable flag, send a message to libnotify, and map it to a shortcut key, I will post all that here as well. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/606238 Title: synaptic touchpad not recognized on dell latitude e6510 and others To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/606238/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Under unity 3d, when I lock the screen and it goes blank, the cpu and fan spin up. After unlocking and bringing the screen back up, the fan spins down. It looks like compiz or X is the process cranking up the CPU (given that I am looking at top and powertop just after logging back in, it is a bit like trying to figure out if the refrigerator light actually goes off when you close the door, but I think compiz is the culprit). [Bug 946388] Re: Remmina full-screen mode does not work under Unity 3D
I am seeing this as well but, oddly, only on specific connections. And always to the same connections. I can't find any differences in settings for the client between the connections that work properly and the connections that don't work properly. I see this from my laptop, which has been upgraded to 12.04 beta through several versions as well as on my desktop, which has a fresh install of 12.04 beta. If I connect to the bad connection with no other connections open, it does the non-fullscreen mode, and all additional connections are in non- fullscreen mode. If I connect to one of the good connections first, I get fullscreen mode, and all additional connections (including the bad connection) are in fullscreen mode. It appears that the workaround to this problem is to connect to a remote computer that works with fullscreen mode first, then to connect to the bad connection second and disconnect the first. One more note: the bad connection is a windows XP computer. All of the other connections are win7 or server 2003. I'm not sure if this happens universally with XP because I don't have another instance to test it on, but I don't see it happening on any other flavor of Windows that I access. I like the ALT + ` switching...I didn't know about it either. But I have an issue that seems to fall under this bug. When I have several windows open including multiple terminal windows, if I alt-tab to the terminals the wrong one is active. Terminal A sits behind Terminal B, but Terminal A has the active cursor and accepts keyboard input. I use transparency in the terminals, otherwise I probably wouldn't have known what was going on. The ALT+` switching lets me pick the proper one--when I switch between them with this key combo the active one comes back to the front. Also, when I use ALT+TAB to pick a specific instance of the terminal (Hit ALT+TAB, pause on the icon for the terminals and wait for the multiple ones to show up or press the down arrow to get to selections, then select the one I want) they end up in the correct z-order with the active one on top. To recreate: open a few windows (I have chromium, home folder, and Geany open) along with two terminal window instances. Go to the browser and ALT+TAB to the terminal icon. The active terminal is not in the front. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/841872 Title: Using the task switcher, hard to cycle through different terminals To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-design/+bug/841872/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 770380] Re: power meter panel icon shows duplicated information
I am seeing this as well on an HP Pavilion DV7. In addition to the duplicate line (which appears after I unplug the power cord), I always see estimating... instead of a time to charge or discharge (though this worked under Maverick, which I updated from). This behavior began when I updated from Maverick to Natty Beta 1. Also, I have seen rare cases where the gnome-power-manager starts consuming about 80% cpu, and it only stops when I kill the process--but I have not seen a particular cause of this behavior, and I don't have any idea whether this is related. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/770380 Title: power meter panel icon shows duplicated information -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 767498] Re: package apport 1.20.1-0ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
I wrote in comment #54 that I saw no additional problems, but I should add that on my next upgrade (I used update-manager, if that matters to anyone) I got a warning about needing a partial upgrade. I performed the partial upgrade and everything processed without issues. I don't see any signs of problems now. For the record, I didn't do the workaround with enabled mentioned in #53. [Bug 759898] [NEW] Startup Application shows up with menu and bad location
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: unity For dealing with an earlier bug I added a gnome terminal to my startup applications--Unity was not loading properly and this allowed me to do a clean shutdown. Now Unity is working properly, but I still have the Gnome Terminal in my startup applications (select system settings and it is Startup Applications under the Personal category. When I log in, the terminal starts as expected, but it has its own menu bar (i.e. not integrated with the unity panel) and it is placed flush with the top of the screen (i.e. with the window's title bar behind the top panel). Everything is fully functional, and I can use the ALT- click-drag combo to move it out of the way. If I close the terminal and start a new one, the menu is integrated into the unity panel and it opens in the right place (just below, not behind, the top panel). Again, everything is fully functional, it just appears that the app from the startup applications is not properly integrated into unity. I assume all this info was transmitted, but I am on Natty 11.04 beta, and all packages are up to date as of the time of this filing. [Bug 308191] Re: Multitouch support not available for Synaptics touchpads v7.2
With the 1.1.1 version installed on my HP Pavilion dv7, the two fingered scroll is now available and works like a charm! The right-button patch from bug #582809 doesn't appear to be compatible, but I haven't tried installing the right button patch first and then this package. I do not have a working right button. Jumpiness appears to be gone as well, though if both palms rub the touchpad while typing it does scroll. The sensitivity seems to be better as well. I need to play with the settings (xinput list-props 'SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad') to see if there is some improvement to be had, but generally this works great. One other item: I do not have click and drag. I can double-tap (e.g. on a window title bar) and drag it around, but I cannot click the left button with one finger and drag around with the other. I am sure I will find a combo of settings that works well, though. The missing items are worth it to be able to type without the cursor jumping around! (Though with current settings it still picks up a palm as a click and moves the cursor occasionally.) One final note on right-button functionality and then I stop bugging you: The strip across the bottom area of my trackpad is a button. [Bug 420999] Re: [karmic] Network manager add DNS servers only once for mobile broadband
I have had this problem as well with ATT broadband and a Sierra Wireless USBConnect 881 on a fresh install of Karmic. I was previously using Jaunty and had no problems, and upgrading Jaunty to Karmic caused no problems. A fresh install of Karmic exhibited this behavior. Everything seemed to work fine on the connection to ATT broadband, I couldn't reach any websites. (Once or twice, the connection seemed to work fine, but there was no apparent commonality to any actions I had taken to get it to work.) Disconnecting, unplugging, rebooting, and restarting network manager seemed to have no effect. After reading this bug, I checked my /etc/resolv.conf file and found that it had no entries in it. I added an entry for nameserver with the first ip address on the opendns site and everything began working fine, even after disconnect and reconnect. By doing the following, I was able to add DNS entries to the connection so that it works consistently: Right click on the network manager icon in the top panel, and select Edit Connections... Choose the Mobile Broadband tab. Select the ATT Data Connect entry and click the Edit button. (an editing dialog appears) Choose the IPv4 Settings tab Change Method to Automatic (PPP) addresses only Enter your nameserver ip addresses in DNS Servers, separated by a comma or semicolon. I entered the opendns entries as follows: 208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220 but you should check their website and see if these are appropriate for you. If I can dig out the ATT nameserver ip addresses, I may change to them, though opendns seems to work well so far. I don't know what the overall problem is or if this helps resolve it (or if it has already been resolved!), but I hope this info will help anyone who has a similar problem. -- [karmic] Network manager add DNS servers only once for mobile broadband https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/420999 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
