You can install all those three packages at once by specifying the

Then you can freeze these versions:

Ok, I checked the md5sum of filesystem.squashfs against md5sum.txt, and
they were different, so, I assume that, at some stage, an error has
crept in. I downloaded a later release and pushed it into the stick, and
installing gave me a different error, of which I made a new error

I got this solved by removing (renaming) /lib/firmware/agere_sta_fw.bin
as explained in bug #498336 comment #86. I guess this one could be
marked as a duplicate for that one.
The reason seems to be a new firmware (9.48) that supports WPA but stops
supporting WEP. The original f/w (8.70) supports

I tried with gutsy 7.10: same. Actually I was only able to boot the
kernel, but that was enough for seeing the distortion. BootX crashed if
I tried to add the initrd, maybe it has grown over some limit.

these machines, it may be a bad idea to try using the fbdev driver for
