I have a Dell Vostro 1500 with Intel X3100 (965gm) graphics chip. There
are two things I can do to reveal this bug. The simplest is to start
Blender and render the default scene. The second is to turn on Normal
Desktop Effects and watch a video on YouTube. I do not get this error

I have the same problem. It's a shame this bug couldn't be resolved
prior to release of 7.10 or after the release. This is the only reason
I have switched from Ubuntu 7.10 to Fedora 8. I will try Ubuntu again
when 8.04 is released. This bug is important to me because I perform
backups at night
After performing my same test again I concur that this bug is currently
present with my installation of Ubuntu 7.10. I'm not sure if the
problem lies with blender or xserver-xorg-video-intel.

After installing linux-backports-modules-2.6.22-14-generic sound works

This problem was fixed with xserver-xorg-video-intel 2.1.1-0u ;
therefore, it really never was a blender bug.

Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: blender
I have a Dell Vostro 1500 with the Intel 965GM graphics card. I am
running a current version of Gutsy Gibbon. If I start Blender in window
mode and select Help - System - Benchmark this causes Xorg to enter
a respawn loop.
** Affects: blender
I've since discovered that any render attempt, even of the default
scene, causes this Xorg crash loop. To test: start Blender and Render
- Render Current Frame. The rendered scene will show in a new window
and then any attempt to move the mouse cursor will cause the Xorg crash
loop to begin.

I have a Dell Vostro 1500 which is in the same situation as most of the

Before compiling alsa-driver 1.0.15rc3 I decided to look more closely
about what is wrong with alsa-driver 1.0.14 since it did partially work
with a stock Gutsy Gibbon Tribe 5. Staying current with the packages
has broken sound support. It originally worked by producing sound only

I downloaded alsa-driver 1.0.14 and ran the snddevices script included
with it. This generated all the sound devices I think I need but still
sound doesn't work. I wondered if the kernel module 'snd-hda-intel'
needed to be reloaded and so I ran 'modprobe -r snd-hda-intel' and then
