[Bug 1881421] [NEW] Thinkpad T440s trackpad and trackpoint stop working after resume from suspend

2020-05-30 Thread Sb
Public bug reported:

Hi, this is a sporadic issue that sometimes appears, sometimes not.
Usually once it starts happening it occurs on every suspend/resume cycle
until the system is rebooted. The trackpad and the red trackpoint nub
stop working after resume. This is on a Thinkpad T440s laptop currently
running a fresh install of Ubuntu 20.04 with Gnome and no major
modifications.

Usually the trackpad can be fixed by unloading/loading the `psmouse`
module.

Thanks.

[Bug 1723835] Re: Dock - Clicking icon doesn't minimize

2017-11-08 Thread SB
Minimize on click was introduced in Unity Tweak Tool and many users
liked it, personally I see no point in classic dock that does not have
that functionality, clicking constantly on minimize button requires more
mouse work and effort and if I dont use minimize button, but instead use
the overview, why bother with a classic dock in the first place? I
believe introducing the option for minimize on click in Dock settings
would make many users happy.

[Bug 1702878] Re: Cant add folders to Search in Gnome Control Center

2017-10-30 Thread SB
Thanks for the information, I am using gnome-search-tool for my searches
and it is pretty good, Gnome Files I didnt use much. As for configuring
tracker I wasnt able to find any config files for it where I can tell it
to avoid indexing contents of files, perhaps I will submit a bug/feature
request with Gnome, I checked this:

https://wiki.gnome.org/Projects/Tracker/Documentation/Configuration

But it didnt help and I think it refers to an old version of tracker.

[Bug 1702878] Re: Cant add folders to Search in Gnome Control Center

2017-10-30 Thread SB
sudo apt install tracker helped and now the icon is no longer greyed
out. I checked the bug you linked and I definitely think that search in
new Ubuntu Session needs to be improved, Unity dash searched for all my
files easily and they were always very quickly accessible, KDE does the
same with Baloo indexing, everything is easily found in KDE menu search.
That is the feature I miss the most from Unity on this new Gnome based
session, that and minimize on click option for dock.

[Bug 1723835] Re: Dock - Clicking icon doesn't minimize

2017-10-22 Thread SB
I agree with this, if Ubuntu wants to make life easier for users in this
new desktop environment minimize on click is essential to it, dash to
dock fully supports that option so I dont know why it is not included in
Ubuntu dock, I am using 17.10 and I really miss that functionality, also
Ubuntu needs an integrated search like the one in Unity dash because
default Gnome search is anything but useful, I needed to install gnome-
search-tool to have access to proper search functionality, these two
things I consider essential in making new Ubuntu desktop usable,
currently it is neither a copy of Unity nor vanilla Gnome so it doesnt
have strengths of neither, I understand this is a transitory phase, but
in my opinion Ubuntu desktop needs to be either pushed towards copying
Unity as much as possible with extensions (existing or new ones) and
perhaps a MacOS like search or just leave it as vanilla Gnome with
Ubuntu fonts and theme. Current state is neither Unity nor Gnome which
doesnt serve much purpose in the long run. App indicators dont work
properly either with some applications (tiny or non existent icons)
while TopIcons Plus extension on Gnome 3.26 still works flawlessly.

I managed to authorize the computer via my phone, but the command is

[Bug 1708608] [NEW] Cant login to any session in Ubuntu 17.10 (desktop hard locks)

2017-08-04 Thread SB
Public bug reported:

I just installed daily iso and I cant login to Gnome at all, when I
enter my password after initial reboot the desktop hard locks and I must
turn off my laptop, I cant get into virtual consoles or anything. My
graphics card is Nvidia, there is no integrated Intel graphics card,
only dedicated Nvidia graphics card. Logging into X.org or Wayland
session makes no difference, both of them completely freeze the system.
How can I debug this?

[Bug 1689598] [NEW] Wifi not working after update to 17.04

Public bug reported:

Logs:

After upgrading my laptop from ubungugnome 16.10 to 17.04 wifi stops
working. The live dvd image also has no wifi. How can I fix this? Re-
installing 16.10 isn't an option, eventually the same thing happens via
an update and I don't want to turn of all updates for ever.

Please let me know what other information you need. I have treid several
other fixes related to wifi in 17.04 but nothing helps.

[Bug 1672198] Re: RTL8723b Kernel driver not loading on normal boot.

2017-03-13 Thread SB
It did start as I had to use kernel 4.8 in order to get my multimedia
keys and suspend to ram working on that machine. With Kernel 4.4 I had
to compile the the driver from lwfinger in order to use wifi.

I will test kernel 4.11 tomorrow and report.

Strange thing is this driver is initialised after resume from suspend.

So i blacklisted the kernel module with:
echo "blacklist rtl8xxxu" | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/rtl8xxxu.conf

and used the lwfinger driver from github again.

So with rtl8xxu driver wifi card does not work on normal boot but does
work when recovering from suspend to ram.

Thank you. Bye.

[Bug 1653159] [NEW] Update elementary-icon-theme to a more recent version

2016-12-29 Thread SB
Public bug reported:

The elementary icon theme has developed a lot and is currently at
4.0.1.1. Is there any chance that a more recent version of this icon-
theme is hitting Ubuntu's repositories? (The currently shipped 2.7.1
dates back to 2011-03-30)

Background: Some the icons look way more beautiful in the current
versions (files, settings, transmission to name a few). Additionally
there are also some missing in the 2.x series (Terminal, ...).

[Bug 1067444] Re: x2x exits with "bash: x2x: command not found"

2016-12-18 Thread SB Technical Services
This bug is invalid.

The problem is actually that x2x is not installed on the remote system.

x2x does not need to be installed on the local system (the one with the
controlling keyboard and mouse), rather it needs to be installed on the
system you wish to control (the remote)

[Bug 833546] Re: iputils-arping conflicts with package arping because of same name

dino99,

A new version is no reason to close this bug, it still exists even for

Also closing it as Invalid is not the correct course of action either,
the bug was and still is a Valid bug.

Reopening.

[Bug 1516913] [NEW] can't install arping due to conflicts with iputils-arping

2015-11-17 Thread SB Technical Services
Public bug reported:

This bug needs to be raised against the arping and iputils-arping
packages.

arping and iputils-arping both provide a binary called arping.

It is impossible to install arping as iputils-arping conflicts with
arping (and many other packages do as well)

arping provides capabilities that iputils-arping does not including
pinging a mac address among other things.

As the 2 versions of arping use conflicting options and offer different
functionality they should not both have the same name.

Even worse ifupdown-extra depends on arping while the iputils-* requires
iputils-arping.
This results in ifupdown-exta being uninstallable on a standard desktop system
(network manager depends on iputils-arping)

There are a number of bugs around regarding this, some dating back over 10
years.
eg:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/arping/+bug/833546

Perhaps it is time for the two maintainers to merge their projects to solve
this for ever, or at least rename one of them.
simple solution would be rename arping package and binary to arp-ping

This system is Mint17 but this issue exits on all debian based systems
and probably other distros as well.

[Bug 1500533] [NEW] Ubuntu Mate Welcome can't install any software when OS installed without internet connection

2015-09-28 Thread Sb
Public bug reported:

Hello, I usually install Ubuntu without an internet connection. Later on
the first boot, I connect to the internet. But the Ubuntu Mate Welcome
in Ubuntu 15.10 doesn't refresh the package sources, so it throws a

know to run an "apt-get update" first, so it would be nice if Ubuntu

- I'm attaching a bootchart. I'm not sure if the initrd time is included

- But subjectively it feels about twice as long to boot as 15.04 on the

[Bug 1498031] [NEW] Ubuntu 15.10 does not differentiate between Windows loader and recovery partitions

2015-09-21 Thread Sb
Public bug reported:

I have a laptop with a Windows 7 partition and another Windows
restore/recovery partition. Ubuntu 15.04 correctly labels them
accordingly in the GRUB menu, but the Ubuntu 15.10 beta just labels them
both as Windows 7. This is a problem because you have to guess which is
for booting into Windows and which is for booting into the recovery
environment. It is also a regression that appeared in 15.10.

[Bug 1498034] [NEW] [15.10 Regression] Sony Vaio has problems resuming from suspend

2015-09-21 Thread Sb
Public bug reported:

I had Ubuntu 15.04 with Unity on a Sony Vaio laptop. Resuming from
suspend worked just fine. But after a fresh install of the 15.10 beta,
it has trouble resuming. Instead of showing the screen locker, it shows
the previous screen with a mouse pointer over the "suspend" item in the
user cog icon menu. (I suspend it from that menu, not the key
combination.) After a few seconds it shows the lock screen, but the
password field doesn't accept input for several seconds more. Finally
the screen blinks and it starts accepting password input. This process
used to be smooth and instantaneous with 15.04, now it's extremely slow
and buggy.

[Bug 1497675] ProcEnviron.txt

2015-09-21 Thread Sb
apport information

** Attachment added: "ProcEnviron.txt"

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1497675/+attachment/4470613/+files/ProcEnviron.txt

** Also affects: linux (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

** Description changed:

Hi, I just upgraded from Ubuntu 15.04 to 15.10 beta. Now when the LightDM
unity-greeter screen appears, it produces a loud distortion noise where the
Ubuntu drums should sound. It was working fine in 15.04 and all prior versions.
Apart from this sound works fine after logging into Ubuntu.
