[Bug 1415880] Re: 14e4:4365 bcmwl-kernel source: fix for null pointer crash

2015-09-16 Thread ser
Just a note to confirm that wily's bcmwl-kernel-source_6.30.223.248
+bdcom-0ubuntu4.1_amd64.deb works a treat. I've been running it for a
few days now, and I've gotten to the point where I trust it enough to
close the lid even when walking to a nearby conference room a couple of
seconds away. I haven't had a single panic since installing the
package.

Absolutely beautiful.

[Bug 1439616] Re: broadcom-sta-dkms 6.30.223.248-3 won't install on Vivid 15.04 Beta 2

2015-07-09 Thread ser
Paul,

Just tried it, and it doesn't work, at least not with 4.0 for vivid
(http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.0-vivid/). The build
first complains:

BEGIN

scripts/Makefile.build:258: recipe for target
'/var/lib/dkms/bcmwl/6.30.223.248+bdcom/build/src/shared/linux_osl.o' failed
END

and when hack+fixed with a symlink, continues to fail with:

scripts/Makefile.build:258: recipe for target
'/var/lib/dkms/bcmwl/6.30.223.248+bdcom/build/src/shared/linux_osl.o' failed
END

It appears to work fine for 3.19.

Hi Paul,

Did you not get this error?

FATAL: modpost: GPL-incompatible module wl.ko uses GPL-only symbol

2014-06-28 Thread ser nerd
ok one more thing occurs to me that might have caused the upgrade
problems is a bug that popped up when i upgraded to 13, which was that
wifi wont' connect when waking from suspend. it took a lot of hunting on
the forums to find a workaround and i am darned if i remember what i
ended up doing. i think of it now for it has reoccured with this upgrade
which is a huge drag for i mostly use suspend. it connects fine with a
reboot but will not connect to wifi in any way shape or form from
suspend

sudo touch /etc/pm/sleep.d/wakenet.sh

Insert the following lines:

esac
exit $?

And then save.

hope that helps with bug fixings. i know you all work so hard and i

did it and then tried upgrade again and it did go farther than before
before it got cranky. looked like it was going to abort the upgrade
again, actually got a msg it was but then it continued on with the
regular error msg that i tried to write down. it had to do with debconf,
something like unable to initialize front end, dialogue front end
requires screen at least 13 lines tall and 31 columns wide. that makes
no sense to me for my screen is pretty big. any way it kept saying
something like revert to front end at the end and then just kept going.
things look like they are working but i have no idea why this upgrade
was so problematic. i have never had a problem like this before.

if it helps AMD C-50 Processor × 2 since it looked like there were some
broken drivers. it is good to note that i only got my video drivers,
when i was trying to get a better one for video, from the unbuntu
software updater.

thanks for all your hard work on all the various upgrades over the
years. i think it's ok now but if you need to contact me if it helps
with bug fixing things then feel free.

warm wishes

[Bug 364411] Re: cdrom drive not recognized after upgrade to 9.04 Jaunty

My guess is that it is a regression in either the SCSI or ACPI
subsystem. Whenever I insert a CD, the kernel starts spewing out these:

ata5 is definitely my CD/DVD RW; from earlier in dmesg:

And pulseaudio sometimes reset subwoofer level and this squeak becomes
more audible. This problems happens when I set audio profile to Analog

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 187313 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/187313

This bug happens to me on multiple computers in XP and Ubuntu.

The problem goes away for a while (hours?) if you right click on an
empty region of the web page. If I don't do that and instead try to
right click on a link, I get the same wrong behaviour. It is never
random per click when it is misbehaving.

Status in “firefox-3.0” source package in Ubuntu: New

Bug description:
Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

When I right click on an item in firefox 3, occasionally the menu does not
appear, but instead firefox chooses an item at random from the menu and
executes that.

It seems to happen more frequently if the system/firefox is under load (eg
when update-manager is updating or when many tabs are open in firefox).

It *might* be that holding the mouse button down longer prevents it from
happening, but it's hard to tell because of the random nature of the bug.

[Bug 254458] Re: sdc error message filling up entire logs

2009-04-06 Thread ser
Booting without USB attached didn't fix either problem.

In the end, I used rsync to clone Ubuntu from my old hard drive onto my
new hard drive, and after I rebooted, all of the problems went away.
Suspend/resume started working again, X stopped crashing when I changed
resolutions, and I'm not getting these phantom READ CAPACITY problems
any more, either.

I suggest, as a work-around, to install Hardy and upgrade to Intrepid,
rather than installing Intrepid from the live CD.

[Bug 228746] Re: USB stops working after a while

2009-03-30 Thread ser
I get this error, too. In my case, the laptop does have an MMC/SD card
reader, but no cards are being inserted when this event occurs.
Additionally, this has *only* started happening since I performed a
fresh Intrepid install on a new hard drive. With a different hard drive
that has Intrepid installed -- but installed via an upgrade from Hardy
-- I do not see this problem.

The last time this happened to me, USB was working when I went to bed
and was hung when I woke up.

I do see that lsusb hangs; I do see that USB stops working; I do not see
the kernel stack traces.

[Bug 254458] Re: sdc error message filling up entire logs

2009-03-29 Thread ser
I can confirm that this is still a problem on the 8.10 CD.

I installed Kubuntu 8.10 x86 from CD, and /var/log/kernel is getting
filled with the following messages:

Mar 29 09:59:05 bean kernel: [ 3666.846313] sd 2:0:0:0: [sdb] READ CAPACITY
failed
Mar 29 09:59:05 bean kernel: [ 3666.846318] sd 2:0:0:0: [sdb] Result:

cache: write through

There is no sdb. This is a laptop with a single drive, and no CDROM.

Interestingly, on this same laptop on a different hard drive, I have
Intrepid installed through an upgrade from Hardy (not a fresh install)
and this problem does not occur there.

Yes, this is still a live bug.

[Bug 254458] Re: sdc error message filling up entire logs

2009-03-29 Thread ser
Ser can you confirm if you have any such hardware ( block device inputs) that
 the sd driver might be
 having a problem with?

Yes, my laptop has an SD/MMC slot (an HP TC4200). Nothing is in the
slot, though.

I've been running Kubuntu on this laptop for over a year, and Intrepid
for a couple of months; it was only after I installed Intrepid fresh
from the live CD onto a new hard drive that this problem appeared.
Intrepid from the live CD appears to have a number of regressions that
I'm struggling with, and I'm not yet sure which are related.

At the moment, I'm not seeing this particular problem. I was also
having trouble with the boot process hanging at starting the bluetooth
service, but I read somewhere that booting the machine without any USB
devices attached stops this from happening so I tried it, and it seems
to have cured this bug as well. Or, it could just be coincidence; I'm
not sure yet. However, I'm still having trouble with the USB -- lsusb
just hangs into an unkillable process with no errors in dmesg.

It feels as if the Intrepid live CD is utterly borked. I may re-install
from Hardy and upgrade to Intrepid -- that's what's on my other hard
drive, and it doesn't have these problems.
