[Bug 2051383] Re: gnome-shell high CPU utilization when moving a high frequency mouse

2024-02-27 Thread Sergey Zolotarev
To answer your first question: I'm testing on a freshly booted system
with no applications running.

Regarding extensions:

After I disable the Desktop Icons NG extension (appears to be one of the
built-ins), peak CPU usage for gnome-shell goes from ~55% to ~35% when
moving over an empty desktop. When moving over an application such as
gnome-terminal, CPU usage for gnome-shell increases to ~60% both with
and without this extension (and also gnome-terminal itself consumes
about 25%).

Besides that I have Ubuntu Dock and Ubuntu AppIndicators - disabling
them didn't affect CPU usage.

evtest output attached.

[Bug 1926398] [NEW] Nautilus doesn't show folder name in Operations dialog

2021-04-27 Thread Sergey Zolotarev
Public bug reported:

When I copy a directory from one disk to another, Nautilus won't show
its name next to the progress bar. It simply says "Copying N files to
diskName".

I think it should say something like: "Copying N files in directoryName
to diskName".

Reason:

When you copy 2 big directories with a lot of files to the same
destination and want to know which one is which, you can't differentiate
between them since the directory name is not shown. If you want to
cancel one of them, you also don't know which X button to click.

See my attached screenshot.

[Bug 1792779] [NEW] DNS host name resolution doesn't work

2018-09-16 Thread Sergey Zolotarev
Public bug reported:

After each reboot of my system systemd adds 127.0.0.53 to
/etc/resolv.conf, which breaks host name resolution, for example I can
no longer visit sites in Firefox and ping them by host name. I have to
manually add a working DNS server such as 8.8.8.8 (if it's not there)
and remove the 127.0.0.53 line to make DNS work again.

/etc/resolve.conf contents after reboot:

# Dynamic resolv.conf(5) file for glibc resolver(3) generated by resolvconf(8)
# DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE BY HAND -- YOUR CHANGES WILL BE OVERWRITTEN
# 127.0.0.53 is the systemd-resolved stub resolver.
# run "systemd-resolve --status" to see details about the actual nameservers.

nameserver 127.0.0.53
nameserver 8.8.8.8

With this resolv.conf, systemd-resolve --status outputs:

Global

think.

[Bug 1746372] Re: [Asus K501UQ] Touchpad stops working after suspend

2018-02-12 Thread Sergey Zolotarev
1) I've been using the drivers from NVIDIA with the normal (not
mainline) kernel 4.13.0-32 for the past week and haven't had this
touchpad issue.

2) When I resume from suspend the touchpad either works or it doesn't.
It always stops working after I suspend/resume a few times. How much
times can vary, but it's inevitable. The problem with the display occurs
only when I enable pm_trace and then suspend and resume.

3) I don't think I can remove the NVIDIA card from this laptop. Even if
I can I'm too afraid I'll break something and it will stop working.

[Bug 1746372] Re: [Asus K501UQ] Touchpad stops working after suspend

2018-02-04 Thread Sergey Zolotarev
I installed Ubuntu on this laptop a couple of weeks ago, so I can't say.
But before Ubuntu I was using Fedora 27 for around 2 months and I didn't
experience this problem there.

I'm attaching dmesg output after another touchpad incident, from 4.15.1
this time. I hope it helps. It looks like this may have something to do
with nouveau, should I try using the proprietary NVIDIA drivers?

[Bug 1746372] Re: [Asus K501UQ] Touchpad stops working after suspend

2018-02-03 Thread Sergey Zolotarev
1. The issue occurs when resuming from suspend.
2. Suspend by closing the lid.
3. Resume by lifting the lid.
4-10. Can't provide this information because I can't get to the console after
waking up.
11. See suspend_stats.txt.
12. Can't SSH into the laptop after resume - ssh says "No route to host". But
under normal conditions I can SSH into it.

[Bug 1746372] Re: [Asus K501UQ] Touchpad stops working after suspend

2018-01-31 Thread Sergey Zolotarev
I was wrong, this didn't fix the bug. After a few more suspends and wakes the
touchpad is dead again.
I think it may depend on how many times the system is suspended or for how long
it was suspended.

[Bug 1746372] Re: [Asus K501UQ] Touchpad stops working after suspend

2018-01-31 Thread Sergey Zolotarev
This patch worked for me with v4.15 kernel:

https://paste.ubuntu.com/26496011/

I basically found the old patch and added an entry for K501UQ there. The
author changed his code from using DMI_PRODUCT_NAME to DMI_CHASSIS_TYPE
since then but that doesn't work for my laptop apparently.

2018-01-30 Thread Sergey Zolotarev
I installed the latest kernel (4.15) from http://kernel.ubuntu.com
/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.15/ but it didn't help. Touchpad worked for a
few seconds after wakeup but then it stopped working. Also same issue
with reboot again, don't know why you deleted it.

[Bug 1746372] [NEW] Touchpad stops working after suspend

2018-01-30 Thread Sergey Zolotarev
Public bug reported:

I have an issue similar to this bug:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1490130

but for another ASUS laptop model - K501UQ. When Ubuntu wakes up after
suspend touchpad doesn't work. Moreover, using "sudo reboot" doesn't
work too (not sure if it's the same bug). When I try to reboot the
system hangs, only hard reboot helps.

[Bug 1490130] Re: Elantech touchpad stops working after suspend

2018-01-30 Thread Sergey Zolotarev
Same problem with ASUS K501UQ on 17.10. I don't see this model in the
list of "matches" in the patch, so I guess I should add it manually and
see if that works.

[Bug 1593922] [NEW] Breeze theme icons turn monochrome when they get smaller

2016-06-17 Thread Sergey Zolotarev
Public bug reported:

Apparently, small-sized icons are all colored in black and white for
some reason (e.g. in Dolphin).

This might be OK for the tray panel but honestly they look plain ugly
anywhere else. I think they should be colored the same as the big icons,
at least in Dolphin.

[Bug 1593918] [NEW] KDE appearance is messed up when installed on a system with Unity/GNOME

2016-06-17 Thread Sergey Zolotarev
Public bug reported:

I installed plasma-desktop and subsequently kubuntu-dekstop packages on
a system running Ubuntu 16.04 LTS that already had Unity and GNOME
installed.

There are a number of problems with regards to KDE appearance settings.
In particular, changing the icon theme in Settings -> Icons does not
seem to have any effect whatsoever. I tried changing mine to Breeze and
Breeze-dark as well as other icon themes coming with Ubuntu install, and
none of them worked: either in Dolphin or KDE menu.

Another problem is the size of font used in KDE menu: it's too big (see
the screenshot). Changing font size in system settings didn't change it.

None of this issues occur if I run Kubuntu 16.04 from a live CD, so I
presume it has something to do with my existing configuration. Deleting
~/.kde and ~/.config didn't have any positive effect though.

Removing pantheon didn't help, now gnome-control-center executable seems
to be missing, even though gnome-control-center package is installed.

[Bug 1437411] [NEW] Keyboard layout indicator shows wrong layout

2015-03-27 Thread Sergey Zolotarev
Public bug reported:

I have two keyboard layous: English (en) and Russian (ru).

The problem is that when I switch to either of those via the keyboard
shortcut (Alt+Shift in my case), the layout indicator shows the opposite
layout. That is, I'm typing English letters, but it shows ru;
likewise, when it shows en the input language is actually Russian.

If I switch laoyout through the indicator itself, the language is set

I fixed this by installing unity-greeter and manually editing

had to set it to unity-greeter).

[Bug 1244158] Re: GNOME: Modifiers Only keyboard layout switch have no effect

2013-12-04 Thread Sergey Zolotarev
I don't know if this is the same issue but recently this started getting
even worse:

1. default input language for some reason is not English
2. as a consequence, the LED lights on when I switch to English (should be the
other way around)
3. Alt + Space doesn't work anymore (should switch to next input source but
doesn't switch anything)
4. switching language via indicator doesn't work

[Bug 1243786] [NEW] Unmet dependencies while installing monodoc-browser

2013-10-23 Thread Sergey Zolotarev
Public bug reported:

I tried to install monodoc-browser to be able to view documentation in
MonoDevelop but apt-get install monodoc-browser failed with the
following error:

$ sudo apt-get install monodoc-browser
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
monodoc-browser : Depends: libwebkit1.1-cil (= 0.3) but it is not going to be
installed
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

I attempted to install the package it referred to but got another error,
see below.

monodoc-browser : Depends: libwebkit1.1-cil (= 0.3) but it is not going to be
installed
libwebkit1.1-cil : Depends: libwebkitgtk-1.0-0 (= 1.7.5) but it is not going
to be installed
libwebkitgtk-1.0-0 : Depends: libjavascriptcoregtk-1.0-0 (=
2.0.4-1ubuntu1~saucy3) but 2.0.4-2~ubuntu13.04.1 is to be installed

libjavascriptcoregtk-1.0-0 is installed on my system but it appears to
be the wrong one?

[Bug 1090926] Re: Alt/Shift key not released after keyboard layout switch

2013-06-03 Thread Sergey Zolotarev
Are you going to fix this? It started to occur even more frequently,
like 80% of the time, and it's really, REALLY annoying!

BTW it happens when I switch the layout in reverse direction too, i.e.
back to English. And it doesn't look like my PC's fault because
everything is OK with the keyboard when I use Windows...

[Bug 1179158] [NEW] Vim changes font color

2013-05-12 Thread Sergey Zolotarev
Public bug reported:

Sometimes opening vim in tilda and closing it changes the font color
from white to gray. Other times the color may change the other way
around, i.e. from gray back to white. Running something like man man
fixes the color but I don't want to run it each time I use vim...

[Bug 1090926] [NEW] Alt/Shift key not released after keyboard layout switch

2012-12-16 Thread Sergey Zolotarev
Public bug reported:

Sometimes after I change keyboard layout with Alt+Shift the Alt key
somehow is not recognized as being released which leads to very
frustrating effects like losing all form-fill data in Firefox because
you press the Home key while typing. The worst thing is that even after
this the key still remains unreleased after multiple keypresses like if
I'm holding it all the time!

Same goes for the Shift key - it feels like you suddenly pressed Caps
Lock but the LED indicator is not turned on. This happens in Ctrl+Shift
mode as well.

[Bug 1087854] [NEW] Terminal opens in wrong directory

2012-12-07 Thread Sergey Zolotarev
Public bug reported:

I've been suggested to create a bug report from the following question:

https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus-open-
terminal/+question/216200

Step by step :

1. enter the /usr directory
2. enter the bin subdirectory so now I'm in /usr/bin
3. go back to /usr using the Back button (or mouse key in my case)
4. open Location options menu via the cogwheel button
5. click Open in Terminal
6. GNOME terminal opens up and its current working directory is set to
/usr/bin (the dirctory I previously was in) rather than /usr
