[Bug 1576859] Re: [nvidia] Graphics corruption when resuming from suspend
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1809407 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1809407 >Aside from anything else, JournalErrors.txt above is showing this bug is from Nvidia driver version 364.19 which doesn't seem to have ever been officially released so is not supported: It was from the unofficial "official" Ubuntu Nvidia driver PPA. I remember issues with resuming from suspend was a noted problem on Nvidia's website at the time although I don't know if they were referring to this bug specifically. >But regardless of the driver version, Nvidia is closed source so neither Canonical nor the community have any power to fix it. We can only track its bugs. Fine. What about the hundred(thousands?) of other critical bugs with open source software that Ubuntu could fix? Like https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome- software/+bug/1575426 OR https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/xenial/+source/gnome- session/+bug/1575434 Which was marked as "fixed" because it was fixed in a newer Gnome version. [Bug 1576859] Re: [nvidia] Graphics corruption when resuming from suspend
Seriously, what the actual fuck? This bug(and others!) was reported 3 goddamn years ago and you people are still resurrecting it by adding useless tags that in no shape or form help the problem getting solved. If you have no interest in actually fixing the issue then mark it as "won't fix" and let it die since there is clearly *NO* intention of EVER fixing it. Ubuntu is a buggy pile of bovine manure and Canonical and related community members seem to have little to no interest in changing that. I installed Ubuntu 18.04 LTS only to instantly run into a bug where the launcher would appear on the lock screen and being completely functional. How the actual fuck did that not get fixed in the beta? IIRC I asked for all the bug reports that I made to be closed since -despite being mostly critical- they were never going to be fixed. If no one at canonical or the surrounding community can at least have the decency to try to fix *CRITICAL* bugs in the software in their distro then at least have the decency to not resurrect *YEARS OLD* dead bug reports that will never get fixed. I'm not asking much here. inb4 "Ubuntu is a community project and relies on community volunteers" Sorry, you don't get to use that defense after shouting from the rooftops how (metaphorically) big your dicks are compared to the competition. You want to be a big boy OS? Start actually supporting your distro. There is ZERO reason why an LTS distro should have critical -easy-to-run-into bugs 6 months after it's release(looking at you Ubuntu Gnome, but much probably applies to standard Ubuntu). You drop a deuce of a distro release and then drop another 6 months later. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1576859 Title: [nvidia] Graphics corruption when resuming from suspend To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1576859/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1575436] Re: Some HTML5 YouTube videos don't work in Chromium
I didn't even know this bug was even open until it was marked as expired. Honestly Paul, there is a difference *BIG* between not having the capacity and just not caring. Every release of Ubuntu Gnome that I've used from 13.10 to 16.04(and 18.04) has been full of bugs that never get fixed even if the bug is fixed upstream. This feels like your just trying to get rid of bugs that canonical or the developers behind Ubuntu Gnome couldn't be bothered to fix. About 6 months I waited for fixes to the 12(?) or so bugs that I reported and some of the bugs were pretty serious like the shutdown/restart dialog box. Years later now and the bugs that are still open haven't been resolved. Easily 80% of the updates that were sent out were security patches in that time... I know this because I was reading the changelog whenever I ran updates. And things clearly haven't gotten better. I installed Ubuntu 18.04 on a secondary computer and the dock/launcher showed up and was usable on the lock screen. Like, people really wonder why the 'Year of the Linux Desktop" hasn't happened yet? Christ, stop drinking the Richard Stallman coolaid and wake up. 16.04 and 18.04 are LTS releases that are recommended by people who claim it to be the "perfect" Windows alternative. God have mercy on your souls if somehow Linux's marketshare actually becomes something notable and the quality is still this horrible. To make a comment now on this two year old bug and claiming you don't have the capacity just comes off as disingenuous, you realize right? Asking me if this bug still affects me is like asking if I still have a cold or the flu two years later from telling people I have it. I don't even use Ubuntu anymore because not even the most basic of quality testing is ever done to prevent the bugs from happening in the first place or to backport the fixes from upstream. I have no way to verify if it's fixed or not besides somehow hunting down that specific chromium build with Ubuntu installed. Even then I have a different computer so who knows if it'll even happen again? If you want to fix a bug then you can fix the graphical corruption bug that I've also reported 2 years ago. It also affects Antergos(Arch Linux) and happens on even Intel graphics. I'm not going to play the "Lets blame proprietary companies for our buggy ass code" game though that people in the Linux world like to play... I just won't do my part to help get it fixed. I'm not playing your stupid games when the bug is *clearly* a problem with the Xorg server or whatever prelocates GPU memory for the windows/desktop. If you aren't going to do that much then please just close all of the bugs that are still open and don't open them anymore. I've tried to help make Ubuntu better by submitting these bug reports and communicating via mailing lists and it was all just a waste of time. Please atleast have the decency to not waste any more. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1575436 Title: Some HTML5 YouTube videos don't work in Chromium To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/chromium-browser/+bug/1575436/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1575412] Re: Graphical glitches when certain OpenGL games go fullscreen
You mean reinstalling/switching driver versions? Yes, it is... sort of. Steam(and thus the openGL games I play) don't work with open source GPU driver, The graphical glitches seem to depend on what was/is going on in the GPUs memory/framebuffer. If you have chromium open or opened recently you might see parts of Chromium mixed in with the graphical glitches. Same thing for every other application. Switching between TTY and Gnome shell or switching users causes graphical corruption in overview. restarting the shell fixes it(see attachment). This bug also happens on the GTX 750 TI as well that I had before. I'm not on an expert on these things, but I really this needs to fixed ASAP. If the GPU is displaying information like this of previously opened applications or currently open then personal information could *potentially* be leaked via a corrupt but readable image of a word document or something. [Bug 1575412] [NEW] Graphical glitches when certain OpenGL games go fullscreen
Public bug reported: When launching certain OpenGL games, graphical glitches consisting of current or recently closed applications can be seen at the very bottom of the screen as the window goes fullscreen. This mostly only happens on games that load a lot of data before starting. Smaller games usually start with little or not graphical glitches. [Bug 1561842] Re: Grub bootloader disappears after a seemingly random amount of restarts/shutdowns.
@Phillip Susi No, I'm not able to find a particular cause for it. As I had said, the system works and acts perfectly normal before this happens and works normal after installing grub again. I'm a bit confused as to how the motherboard/BIOS could have just *forgot* that Grub existed. Not that I'm calling you a liar or anything, its just I've had Windows 10 Insider Preview(UEFI install) and SteamOS(for a short period of time, anyway) as well as Windows 7 that came with my computer installed had/has no such issues. @Erick I'm very certain the Windows 7 HDD isn't UEFI as I've never seen any indication that it was. If it matters any, I have two Ubuntu boot options for Ubuntu Gnome: 1: ubuntu 2: UEFI: ST3750528AS (hard drive model) Booting into the UEFI option causes the screen to flash blue and text to appear for not even a second before showing the GRUB bootloader. I don't know what it says as it flashes so fast. Booting into the "ubuntu" option just takes me straight to GRUB menu. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1561842 Title: Grub bootloader disappears after a seemingly random amount of restarts/shutdowns. [Bug 1561842] Re: Grub bootloader disappears after a seemingly random amount of restarts/shutdowns.
I've personally never used update-grub before, so unless the command was given by an update, no. I run Windows 7 and Ubuntu Gnome on separate hard drives. I had unplugged the Windows 7 HDD for the boot-repair. Don't think so since it happens when restarting from Ubuntu Gnome and never from Windows 7 to Ubuntu Gnome if the option was there before restarting Ubuntu Gnome. If it matters any, I get a duplicate UEFI entry for Ubuntu, named after the hard drive model(Model: ST3750528AS). If i select it, the screen flashes blue and enters grub as normal(or looks normal, anyway). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1561842 Title: Grub bootloader disappears after a seemingly random amount of restarts/shutdowns. [Bug 1561842] [NEW] Grub bootloader disappears after a seemingly random amount of restarts/shutdowns.
Public bug reported: This happens on Ubuntu-Gnome 14.04.X(X being initial release and all point released after) through 15.10. The OS itself is fine and can be booted into again by reinstalling Grub but will eventually happen again. This bug can happen right after a new install of Ubuntu-Gnome or many months after. When it does happen, the system works and acts the same as before and after the bug.
