[Bug 309522] [NEW] Evolution segfaults

2008-12-18 Thread f4hy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I have found evolution crashes hangs or segfaults while managing
contacts.

When moving a contact from one address book to another, if evolution
prompts to merge there is a high likely hood it will segfault or hang.
Sometimes it just hangs using 100% cpu and the process must be killed or
it will output the following:

(evolution:8467): libglade-WARNING **: could not find widget creation function
Segmentation fault

In either case the contact which was being moved is lost and is not
merged into the existing one and is removed from the original address
book. This does not seem to happen every time, but upwards of 90% of the
time. I have been doing many tests reloading a saved address book and
moving again to see what exact conditions this occurs in but it seems to
be completely random. Doing the same steps sometimes it works but most
of the time fails. Open to suggestions on things to try.

[Bug 253887] Re: X becomes unresponsive when clicking the logoff button on gnome panel

2008-10-10 Thread f4hy
I no longer have the issue with intrepid. The shutdown menu seems to
have been redone and separated from log out, when this was done it fixed
my issue.

[Bug 253887] [NEW] X becomes unresponsive when clicking the logoff button on gnome panel

2008-08-01 Thread f4hy
Public bug reported:

Sounds similar to bug 229043 but I am not using intel drivers.

Selecting the logout button the gnome panel causes X to become
unresponsive. This does not happen every time but about 80% of the time,
I am unable to figure out what triggers it and appears to be random.
Sometimes the logout window will appear after an extended period of time
(1 min) and function returns to normal.

After selecting the button no windows or menus can be selected. The
mouse still moves around the screen, audio will continue to play if
playing. Mouse and keyboard actions have no result on any aplication and
can not affect the screen in anyway. The only exception is
ctrl+alt+backspace works and restarts the session. Ctrl+Alt+F1 works and
drops back to a terminal which is fully functional, alt+f7 brings X back
but is unresponsive other than moving the mouse cursor.

System:
Hardy 8.04.1
2.6.24-20
nvidia graphics card. Issue is present using both nvidia drivers and nv drivers.

I have noticed that the few times the logout button does work the
options are not always all there, sometimes hibernate and stand by are
not displayed. Does that mean it is related to acpi? (I am not familiar
with ACPI but can do any tests needed)

[Bug 229043] Re: System freezes when clicking shutdown button

2008-07-28 Thread f4hy
I have had the same issue for months and do not have keytouch installed.

The problem is not due to Intel drivers as I am experiencing it using
nvidia.

A work around seems to be to turn compiz off by running 'metacity
--replace '

The interesting thing is that I do not get this problem every time. It
seems to be about 80%. Even when it does hang it will finally respond
after about 15 minutes and show the logout dialog. In the mean time
killing the session with ctrl+alt+backspace appears to work.

[Bug 238429] [NEW] Pulse audio breaks digital sound support

2008-06-08 Thread f4hy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pulseaudio

Starting in 8.04 the ubuntu uses the pulseaudio system. While pulseaudio
is a great system this breaks support for digital output on most
systems. This is not acceptable as digital audio output worked in
previous version of Ubuntu.

While there are many reported workarounds none of them are simple or
work to a satisfactory level. I feel this is a serious problem and pulse
audio currently offers no support for SPDIF soundcards. See this bug
http://www.pulseaudio.org/ticket/139

Until digital output is supported by pulseaudio users should be given
the choice if they wish to use the pulseaudio system or at least
provided with a simple method to remove the system to restore sound
capabilities.

[Bug 205717] Re: [Hardy] S/Pdif / digital output not available in pulseaudio

2008-06-08 Thread f4hy
The linked bug for pulseaudio http://www.pulseaudio.org/ticket/139 is
indeed the problem.

It does not seem to be a high priority for the team over there, so if
anyone knows anything about SPDIF adding support to pulseaudio would be
great.

In the mean time there should be an easy way for users to opt out of
using pulseaudio either at install or a way to revert back to restore
support for the many users with digital sound.

[Bug 195143] [NEW] After update to Hardy Heron Alpha 5 leftclicks count as doubleclicks

2008-02-24 Thread f4hy
Public bug reported:

After updating to hardy heron I am unable to single click. Every click
of the mouse counts as a double click. This makes it very difficult to
use the system. To activate menus I am able to hold down the left click
instead and it seems to count the up and down as two different clicks.

I opened up the mouse application in System Preferences Mouse and
verified that any click causes the lightbulb to light up fully. This is
indipendant of what I set the double click timeout to be.

Before upgrading I was using xbindkeys to enable some of the custom
buttons on my mouse but I have disabled that now to make sure it was not
the cause of the problem. I am not using any other applications that
should alter my mouse behavior (that I know of.)

I am using a logitec MXlaser mouse on the 64 bit version of hardy.

I reverted to the mouse driver rather than the evdev device and no
longer had the issue. Perhaps the issue is with evdev.

[Bug 110987] Re: Random soundcard on boot (Ubuntu 7.04)

2007-05-02 Thread f4hy
I have the same problem, but have a workaround. My onboard via82xx sound
card is disabled in the bios but gets loaded anyway. It does not
function as it is disabled in the bios. I do not know if this is ubuntu
specific or upstream.

To work around update your /etc/modprob.d/blacklist and add the line:

blacklist snd_via82xx

That will prevent ubuntu from loading the module. Sound works alot
better as I do not have to set the default sound card every boot.
