Jeremy I followed the instructions as best I could. another bug report was generated automatically once I had the new kernel loaded and inserted the SD card but I am not sure of the number. The card reader did not appear as a volume either starting with the card in or out of the slot. Hope I have done the right thing and it helps. Just tried updating the bios using a windows based application from Acer to BIOS version 3.01 from 1.06 with no result. tried loading MS drivers in WINE but this did not work either. Ah, nuts...It couldn't be that easy! The DELL inspiron 1520 I am using has an external wi-fi catcher switch with three positions. 0=Off, I=On, =scan for wireless networks. I think this bug has a workaround in Bug 441161 but I am too much of a newby to understand the instructions. which part is terminal code and which just information? How do I check that solution applies? Steps taken tonight to reproduce problem. 1. Instal Ubuntu 9.10 2. Check wireless is working 3. System/Administration/Update manager click 'Instal Updates' (There are 166 of them) 4.
