[Bug 33269] Re: root filesystem fails to mount
The same issue has now affected me. I fresh-installed 9.10 yesterday from the currently available .iso files. Having let Update Manager do its job of updating to the latest kernel (etc), I am now unable to boot on that kernel. The error message is similar to #76 here, and references the UUID in my fstab which is my root drive. It appears to be comfortable about where my swap is. My workaround (not a very valid one) is to choose the earlier kernel in the list presented by grub. That does work well. It would be great to understand from Keith Jenkins what a sensible edit to my fstab would be; however, given that it does currently work on the older kernel, the workaround is probably most sensible for now. -- root filesystem fails to mount https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/33269 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 33269] Re: root filesystem fails to mount
(And bizarrely) I've done two things on this computer. sudo gedit /etc/fstab ... I edited this file, then decided against it, and deleted my change, then saved it (in effect, therefore, re-saving an unchanged file) ...and reported this bug on Launchpad. Either one, or the other, appears to have fixed the problem, and the new kernel now works quite happily. This is possibly therefore not the most helpful bug report in the world, but thought it was worth adding this comment. -- root filesystem fails to mount https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/33269 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 293354] [NEW] Used cruft remover - resulted in unbootable system
Public bug reported: Almost impossible to report as a bug - but I used the Cruft Remover (System Cleaner) in my version of Ubuntu 8.10; it resulted in file not found on rebooting the system. I've been running 8.10 beta for a while now, so it was time for me to properly install the finished version of the OS, but I could have done without... Anyway, I'm reinstalling, so vaping any evidence, but thought someone had better know. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Used cruft remover - resulted in unbootable system https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/293354 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 275054] Re: jockey-gtk crashed with DBusException in call_blocking()
I got this error when attempting to change my 'Visual Effects' (in System Preferences Appearance) from None to Normal. It is possibly related to https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/145360 - I've just grabbed the latest version of compiz from the software update, and wondered if that had fixed the bug I was having. It seems that compiz isn't crashing any more, anyway... ! -- jockey-gtk crashed with DBusException in call_blocking() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/275054 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 281683] [NEW] Incorrect partition creation when on an SSD (EXT3 instead of EXT2)
Public bug reported: I'm using a little Acer Aspire One with an 8G SSD drive, which works well with Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex. However, on installation (from the 'live CD' downloaded a week ago), the partition manager set me up with an EXT3-formatted SSD drive. A journalled EXT3 system uses the SSD drive much more than a EXT2 formatted system; and I was experiencing severe slowdowns when doing filesystem-heavy things - particularly when, for example, running software updates or using Firefox 3. All the advice I've read suggests setting up Ubuntu, on a solid-state flash drive, using EXT2. Having now done so, the system is much nimbler and much faster. Assuming that people here agree with this, I'd therefore like to submit that the installation process is incorrectly installing an EXT3 filesystem for a solid-state hard drive; and therefore that this is not desired behaviour. (As an aside, I got hopelessly confused when attempting to override it and choose EXT2; but thankfully found a guide to simply change my EXT3 formatted drive to an EXT2 one.) I'm unclear what more information you require to help fix this bug; but I would see the current crop of SSD-based systems such as the Acer Aspire One and the Asus Eee PC family computers as being important machines to fully support in an out-of-the-box 8.10 experience. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Incorrect partition creation when on an SSD (EXT3 instead of EXT2) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/281683 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 281683] Re: Incorrect partition creation when on an SSD (EXT3 instead of EXT2)
I chose guided. And yes, my suggestion is that the Ubuntu installer automatically uses EXT2 when installing to an SSD - rather, that its choice of EXT3 for an SSD is incorrect. -- Incorrect partition creation when on an SSD (EXT3 instead of EXT2) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/281683 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 145360] Re: compiz.real crashed with SIGSEGV
I noticed a new update to compiz this morning in software update. So, went to change Visual Settings (in Appearance) to 'Normal', which used to kick this error off for me. It doesn't any more. Yay. It kicks this error off instead. [Bug 49613] Re: Flash content always on top of web pages
As a reporter of a bug marked as identical, I'm concerned that the bug I reported is not identical. Take a look at http://www.bbc.co.uk/ at the top right-hand side, and you'll note that the clock has an unpleasant black background (unlike Windows/Mac). It should be a mostly transparent clock. To my view, this is immaterial as to whether Flash is on top (don't care in this case as long as transparency works). [Bug 189882] Re: transparency does not work with flash plugin
The clearest place to see this is if you visit www.bbc.co.uk - the clock (top-right) has a transparent background in Windows/Mac, and a nasty black background in Ubuntu.
