I'm receiving the error " multipathd: uevent trigger error" in syslog

ubuntu 14.04.5 LTS, kernel: 3.13.0-142-generic

when tried with the command "$multipath -v 3" the top line says

"vda: not found in pathvec" not sure if this is related to the error

the current multipath-tools package version is "0.4.9-3ubuntu7.16"

received the same errors, while using older version too, to be specific
"multipath-tools 0.4.9-3ubuntu7.11"

[Bug 1713194] Re: package snmpd 5.7.3+dfsg-1ubuntu4 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2017-11-24 Thread Karthik
i just surfer in google and gor the solution.

Before the problem araised, the net-snmp-5.7.3, snmp-mibs-downloader and snmpd
were already downloaded by me.
At this point of time, the libraries which will be used by snmpd are installed
at two locations "/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/" and "/usr/local/lib". when I
tried to start the snmpd, as the libraries were at two locations, snmpd service
is confused which location of libraries to use.. Thus I have to remove the
oldest libraries installed among them to make it work.

To check if you have the libraries at two locations use "find /usr/ -name
libnetsnmp*" command on terminal.
If you find 'libnetsnmp-' files on both the above mentioned locations,
remove the oldest libs (in my case) using: "sudo rm /usr/local/lib/libnetsnmp*"
This will solve the problem of snmpd to start.

[Bug 1637733] Re: freeze on login with prime-select intel

2017-03-26 Thread Karthik Karanth
I encountered the same problem on my brand new Asus FX553-VD, with a Kabylake
7700HQ i7 and GTX 1050. I'm running Ubuntu GNOME 16.10, 4.10 kernel and have
installed the Intel i915 drivers.
I found a workaround for it.

1) Install and enable acpi-call-dkms
sudo apt install acpi-call-dkms
sudo modprobe acpi_call

2) Whenever you want to switch to Intel, run `sudo prime-select intel`,
and reboot.

3) At the login screen, press Ctrl+Alt+F2, login, and run:
sudo /usr/share/doc/acpi-call-dkms/examples/turn_off_gpu.sh

4) Press Ctrl+Alt+F1 and login. It should be using the Intel graphic
card now. You could check with `glxinfo | grep -i opengl`

You'll have to do this whenever you're using the Intel GPU
unfortunately.

I found this method of turning the GPU off on the Arch
wiki(https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/hybrid_graphics#Fully_Power_Down_Discrete_GPU).
I don't know if it will work for others, but I hope it helps diagnose
the issue.

To switch back to NVIDIA, run `sudo prime-select nvidia` and reboot.

Does the proposed kernel disable signature verification by default? If
not, the bug will persist.

Moreover, this enforcement was by design.

[Bug 1574300] Re: Could not load 'vboxdrv' after upgrade to Ubuntu 16.04

2016-04-26 Thread Karthik Nishanth
@ejohn Yes, I did the same too.

output of
> sudo mokutil --list-enrolled

lists the key I created.

And also,

> strings driver.ko

has a `~Module signature appended~` at the end, with my signature name.

Inference is that I have successfully enrolled the key which I created in
mokutils.
The module is signed too, with my generated key.

Any idea how to proceed further?

[Bug 1574300] Re: Could not load 'vboxdrv' after upgrade to Ubuntu 16.04

2016-04-25 Thread Karthik Nishanth
Thanks for the info. This is not a bug,

"Since Ubuntu kernel 4.4.0-20 the EFI_SECURE_BOOT_SIG_ENFORCE kernel
config has been enabled. That prevents from loading unsigned third party
modules if UEFI Secure Boot is enabled.

Since Ubuntu kernel build 4.4.0-21.37 this can be fixed by running

sudo apt install mokutil
sudo mokutil --disable-validation"

Can we close this?

[Bug 1565101] [NEW] linker failures possibly due to wrong ABI config

2016-04-01 Thread Karthik Sarma
Public bug reported:

Hello,

I'm not really an expert in this sort of thing, but I was having trouble
building things that depend on glog-dev in 15.10 (such as FB folly).
Some google searching found me this thread:
https://groups.google.com/d/msg/caffe-users/a6TDx89IByY/lTWaK0dPBQAJ
from folks having trouble building caffe. The linked poster suggests
that this is because the package in the repo has been built with
-D_GLIBCXX_USE_CXX11_ABI=0 rather than 1. I was able to fix my problem
by recompiling from the source distribution, which might lend some
credence.

Anyway, just wanted to make sure you folks were aware of this.

[Bug 1526551] Re: Can't set brightness to zero

2016-03-27 Thread karthik
I had the same problem that I 'fixed' by the following steps (Note that
you will have to force restart your system):

1. Set the desired brightness value in the
'/sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness' file:

echo 0 | sudo tee /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness

2. Force restart the system by pressing down the power button

After the restart I could turn the brightness completely (to screen
becoming almost black with
'/sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness' showing the value 15).

[Bug 1553012] Re: Misleading explanatory text for how to add a custom shortcut key

2016-03-27 Thread karthik
** Description changed:

In Keyboard -> Shortcuts -> Custom Shortcuts, the text in the status bar
  reads,

- "To edit a screenshot, click the row and hold down the new keys or press
+ "To edit a shortcut, click the row and hold down the new keys or press
  Backspace to clear"

That's not entirely accurate. If you click near the shortcut name in the
row, a popup appears to edit the shortcut. You must click SPECIFICALLY

[Bug 1480694] [NEW] Screen turns white after pressing Print Screen

2015-08-02 Thread karthik
Public bug reported:

When print screen button is pressed, a white image covers the entire
screen. When Shift+Print screen is pressed the selected area is covered
with white color, behind which the 'gnome-screenshot' dialog box
appears. I can not recover by pressing Alt-F4, Escape, but only by
pressing Tab thrice and then Enter (which essentially saves the image in

Happens only with 'gnome-screenshot' and others like 'shutter' is
working well.

2015-02-14 Thread Karthik KR
Tried your work around

The last command dpkg --purge --force-depends libc6-dev-x32did help in
resolving the issue.
Very irritating to see that one apt-get install breaks your entire system.

Got into this issue because I was trying to initialize an Android build
environment on 14.04/64 bit.
The AOSP advises to install g++multilib which simply breaks the system.
I was not even able to install or remove any package when it was broken.

[Bug 80635] Re: Please disable flow-control by default

2014-09-17 Thread Karthik
Was facing a problem with tmux where the panes just used to freeze up. I
finally found today, the problem had nothing to do with tmux and the
culprit was flow-control.

This totally unused feature is causing a lot of confusion in the
community and unrelated bug reports and support questions are being
raised for other applications because of the flow-control problem (Just
search for 'tmux pane freeze') and see how many results you get.

I totally agree that this feature should be duabled by default.

Hmm...I realize this is not a problem. I posted it in AskUbuntu and have
not heard anything. As this bug seemed very similar to what I was
experiencing, I was wondering if one of the persons who solved or know
how to solve could write a quick comment on how to do so...

IP forwardingDNS forwarding you mean??? DHCP does work, but not DNS!

[Bug 1237364] Re: Commissioning with a Saucy image sets node status to Failed tests

2014-06-12 Thread Rajasekar Karthik
I am having same problems but with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS -

I have a Ubuntu MASS Server running on one node.
It has two NICs. One NIC (eth1) is connected to our organization's network. The
other NIC (eth0) is private network - to manage all the nodes in the cloud. I
am running DHCP server on eth0.

I am trying to add another node. It can PXE boot, get IP address, but
cannot connect to external network and get packages. Can you provide
details on how to resolve this? I referred
http://ideasnet.wordpress.com/category/ubuntu-14-04lts-cloud-computing-
server-edition/

which helped in other cases, but not with this problem.

Thanks!

Tried downgrading to 1.2.0-1.4ubuntu4 as suggested in one of the
comments, but that too didn't solve the problem. Got the same above
error with the older version also.

[Bug 1241737] [NEW] The created live usb does not have persistent storage despite selecting persistance during liveusb creation

2013-10-18 Thread KARTHIK
Public bug reported:

I am running Ubuntu 12.04.3, and wanted to create a live USB of Ubuntu
12.04.3 with USB-Creator version 0.2.23.

I selected persistent storage with 4GB size.

Everyting was done. Now I booted into the liveUSB, created a few files,
restarted into the liveUSB and these files were gone. The presistent
storage was not working.

Then, I followed the solution given at
http://askubuntu.com/a/225346/67346.

Basically, the solution prescribed adding presistance keyword to all
line ending with -- in both text.cfg and txt.cfg (both are present in
/syslinux folder in the liveUSB.

My liveUSB didn't have text.cfg but had txt.cfg. So, I added the
persistence keyword to all lines ending with -- in txt.cfg. This too
didn't solve the problem.

[Bug 1088389] [NEW] Signon-ui takes a very long time to appear

2012-12-10 Thread KARTHIK
Public bug reported:

I am behind a proxy server and have set up the appropriate proxy
settings.

Ubuntu 12.10

signon-ui-0.11-0ubuntu1

Expected Behaviour.
1. Once we select an account, should be able to authenticate immediately.

To reproduce the bug.

1. Open Online Accounts, and try to set up a Google Account.
2. You just get a blank screen in your Online Accounts dialog box.
3. After a few minutes, the signon-ui appears.
4. Enter the details there and press enter.
5. The Signon-ui box goes blank.

I am not sure if this problem exists for everyone, or only for people
behind a proxy server.

[Bug 860586] Re: Setting time manually in Time Date settings doesn't work

2012-11-02 Thread KARTHIK
I am using Ubuntu 12.10. The version of indicator-datetime is
12.10.2-0ubuntu3.

I am still facing the exact same problem.

If I use set time automatically from the Internet, I get wrong time and
I am not able to set it manually.

The only solution I could find was to run date command from the
terminal and set it manually.

[Bug 882495] [NEW] sendip 2.53 many option not working with ubuntuUbuntu 10.04.3 LTS (Lucid Lynx)

2011-10-27 Thread karthik
Public bug reported:

1)Ubuntu 10.04.3 LTS (Lucid Lynx)
2)sendip 2.53
3)following options are not supported in ubuntu as in gentoo linux

Additional options:
-n num send num number of packets. Default: 1
-w num wait num between sending each packet. Default: no wait
-l num set packet len to num. Default: 10

  Dot1Q options:
  -qp num User Priority 0
  -qc 0/1 CFI 0
  -qi num Vlan ID 0

MAC options: If used, ALL have to be configured!
-ms hex source MAC. Default: MAC of best interface to Destination IP
Note: if -ms is configured, -md -mi MUST also be configured
-md hex destination MAC address. Default: MAC of next-hop interface
Note: if -md is configured, -ms -mi MUST also be configured
-mi name interface to send the packet. Default: best interface to
Destination IP
Note: if -mi is configured, -ms -md MUST also be configured
 Example: sendip 10.1.1.1 -mi eth1 -ms 00d0b7c3bfe1 -md 003088010203

So many scripts will fail if we will comment source mac ,destination mac
,length , number of
packet as mentioned in EV 147193. sendip is not even supporting interface to
send .
