Hi everyone!
I have an ACER Aspire 9410. This computer has an ATA DD (i'm sure i've
disassembled it) but when i try to install Ubuntu (any version even gusty TRIBE
X) it is recognised as an SCSI sda... The install works fine and everything
works fine after the install but
I've looked at the bug report #131696 but there isn't any fix proposed.. is
there any?
maybe put break=top and modprobe -r libata would be helpful??

If i do this trick my hard drive is also recognised as the old fashioned
/dev/hdaX but DMA is off and it is impossible to turn it on!
I would like to have the denomination /dev/hdaX because when the system
recognise my disk as a SATA it make a weird noise when it turn off!

I'm sorry but i didn't understood how i could flash the drive.
You said with the -noverify swith and tried much option like :sfdnwin.exe
/noverify, etc...
but the program still refuse my firmware what are the exact steps to flash the
drive?

I'm sorry but are you using Debian Etch or Ubuntu Edgy?
My disk is a PATA but is actually recognized as SATA.
I hope there is at least or debian or ubuntu which doesn(t freeze.

I don't know how to install a debian kernel on Ubuntu but i think that if i
install a Debian Etch, it could lead to the same resut isn't it?

Hi all i didn't try the echo 1 /sys/bus/scsi/devices/0:0:0:0/timeout but
i tried to search why it was freezing and i saw somewhere (maybe is it stupid?)
that it was due to the ata_piix driver which control both SATA and PATA. From
this i thought that i could try to add a boot option like
I confirm that it still freezes for me too. A little bit less and not the first
day but it still freezes.
I also tried firmware upgrade and cd in the drive with same poor results

I also have a Acer Aspire 9412AWLMI and i tried much distros with all the same
result (freeze...). Someone (witch i thank a lot!) at the fosdem at Brussels
showed me this post. Since i putted a cd in the cd drive no more freeze.
I'll try to upgrade firmware of the cd drive and i'll say you
