I have the same problem on a Gateway ID49C07U. Problem didn't exist with
Maverick on the same laptop, and it is seemingly random. Can't pin it
down to any specific event. It'd sure be nice if upstream took notice of
this and offered some sort of solution..

Just tried using xbacklight on the command line. It is not able to
adjust the brightness onscreen either, although it seems to think it is
doing so. If i use the command to set the brightness percentage, then

I installed the linux alsa driver package from the PPA, and still no
change, so I am open to suggestions, as is my family.. They don't like

I didn't have this problem with the default installation of the Beta,
but it seemed to appear right after the xorg-intel update that fixed
issues some intel users were having with slow performance.

I was searching for what this stuff in my dmesg meant and stumbled
