[Bug 1621265] Re: lose monitor during boot up if I don't add 'nomodeset' to kernel options
seems to be something between 4.5-rc7 and 4.5 Been a long time since I compiled a kernel and never used git before. Could not get the kernel to compile in Yakkety. After refreshing myself on the use of make-kpkg, compiled 4.5 on my debian unstable box and installed and booted on my yakkety box with no issues. First kernel compiled as part of the bisect process installed fine, shows the issue on boot up. Looks like I'm on my way. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1621265 Title: lose monitor during boot up if I don't add 'nomodeset' to kernel options To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1621265/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Christopher, I filed the report and subscribled you. For others following here. Did also find out in my case it happens when the monitor is attached with a VGA cable. It does not happen if I use a DVI cable to connect the monitor. [Bug 1621265] [NEW] lose monitor during boot up if I don't add 'nomodeset' to kernel options
Public bug reported: If I connect my monitor to my computer with a VGA cable, I have to stop at the grub menu and add 'nomodeset' to the kernel options with all the 4.4.0-* kernels. If I do not add 'nomodeset' to the kernel options, my monitor goes blank, complains of no video signal, then goes to sleep as soon as the kernel attempts to enable mode setting. Turning the monitor off and back on does not help, unplugging the VGA cable and connecting the DVI cable does not help. I have to hit 'Ctrl'+'Alt'+'Del' and wait for the computer to restart or hit the power button and wait for the computer to shutdown. If I connect the monitor to the computer with a DVI cable, I do not have to add 'nomodeset' to the kernel options, everything works as expected. I do not have the option for HDMI on the monitor currently attached. Will see if I can get that tested either with another monitor or DVI to HDMI adapter. [Bug 794315] Re: lightdm forgets to source /etc/profile and ~/.profile
Is it a prerequisite? It was done in the past so there is a strong argument that is should continue. If it is Ubuntu policy that '~/.profile' get sourced by the display manger, all the display managers should do it and the sample file should not indicate it is intended for the login shell. Which indicates to me I should not expect '~/.profile' to get sourced if a display manager is handling the login or if I am starting one shell from another shell. If it is not policy then various places where these things are documented should give more complete information on when you should expect it to work. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EnvironmentVariables Gives the expectation it should work... But right after they link to http://userbase.kde.org/Session_Environment_Variables/en Which does not say anything about '/etc/profile' or '~/.profile'. So should I take it that I should not expect kdm to source these files or is the sole purpose of the link to give you additional KDE specific options? And I don't see on the community documentation page anyting about '~/.xsessionrc' (Debian) or '~/.xprofile' (Redhat). Should we expect one or both of these to work and should we expect them to continue working in the future with Mir and Wayland? More discussion there than should be had in a bug report for lightdm, presenting them here so the questions are out there for future thought. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/794315 Title: lightdm forgets to source /etc/profile and ~/.profile To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/lightdm/+bug/794315/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 901846] [NEW] linux image failure to install when failing to find ext theme directory
Public bug reported: On a multiarch i386 system the kernel image failed to install: linux- image-3.2.0-3-generic_3.2.0-3.9_amd64.deb Previously I had installed memtest86+:amd64 package which forced out the syslinux packages. While troubleshooting went back to the i386 package of memtest86+, reinstalled the syslinux packages and related theme packages. While uninstalling extlinux and attempting to re-install, it also started having the same complaints. The first issue was not finding a ´/usr/share/syslinux/themes/debian'. I created a symlink to the directory for the theme I have installed ´debian - ubuntu-precise´, then attempting to install extlinux and kernel image twice resulted in failure to find ´/usr/share/syslinux/themes/debian/extlinux´ at which point I created a directory with that name. [Bug 817718] Re: [Oneiric] Wrong dependency in usb-creator 0.2.31
Why is the dependency wrong? libunity is required so that the integration works on systems with Unity installed (note, the dependency is libunity, and not unity). Making it a recommends adds extra run-time complexity to check if things are installed. Doesn't it have to do the same run time checks whether the library is installed or not? If the library is installed does it not have to check to see if Unity is installed or not? Wouldn't it make more sense to make libunity a dependency of the package (packages?) that provide the launcher/places functionality instead of the ones that could use it if it's running? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/817718 Title: [Oneiric] Wrong dependency in usb-creator 0.2.31 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/usb-creator/+bug/817718/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

The launcher would set a soft strut that would encourage initial window placement outside of the strut, but not be a strict enforcement as in the panel case. There is a secondary issue. [Bug 628087] Re: Maverick ubiquity lacks option to change computer name
For the typical home use situation, having the user name as the host name doesn't really seem like much of a security risk, in a corporate situation I would be more inclined to think about the security implications. Duplicate hostnames on the network seems like a much bigger issue. The best solution to me would be to have a single page where as you type in your desired user name in the username box, also have an editable hostname box that has a random segment that gets generated when the page comes up and a username segment that is filled as the user types their desired username so you end up with a 'username-' type hostname by default. If the user doesn't care about or is happy with the default hostname they could then just hit next, if they want to change it they click on or tab to the hostname box, put in their desired hostname and hit next. Had enough running time now to consider the issue closed, my best guess is that it must have been some kind of firmware issue that was fixed by the newer linux-firmware package, since I seem to be the only one that was affected, changing the status of the bug. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Fix Committed ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu) Status: Fix Committed = Fix Released -- Xorg freeze drm radeon 'Faild to schedule IB' https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/588940 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 588940] Re: Xorg freeze drm radeon 'Faild to schedule IB'
I'm a little hesitant to say this is fixed until I get more running time, but since the framebuffer and linux-firmware packages were updated I switched X back to using the radeon driver, ran for a while with no lock ups, took the 'nomodeset' option out of the boot up and am currently running Gnome with Mutter as the window manager. I do get an error about an invalid frame buffer ID now. ** Attachment added: dmesg.txt http://launchpadlibrarian.net/49840345/dmesg.txt -- Xorg freeze drm radeon 'Faild to schedule IB' https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/588940 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 588940] Re: Xorg freeze drm radeon 'Faild to schedule IB'
Have you tried booting with pci=nomsi ? Nothing in /proc/interupts made it look like msi was being used, but I tried the 'pci=nomsi' thing anyway, no difference. There is a difference with the 'nomodeset' in there, in that it takes longer for there to be a problem, less likely to be hard locked, the status key on the keyboard changes when I press numlock and 'Sys Rq'+'B' reboots the system. But also on the down side when 'nomodeset' is in there and X becomes unresponsive, it always seems to be that 'Ctl'+'Alt'+'F1' and 'Sys Rq'+'K' have no effect so there is no switching to VT 1 or killing everything in VT 7 and there doesn't seem to be any clues left behind in syslog, Xorg.log or .xsession-errors that really seem like an indicator pointing towards a possible cause. -- Xorg freeze drm radeon 'Faild to schedule IB' https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/588940 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 270762] [NEW] wireless fails when configured in interfaces while networkmanager is installed
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: network-manager Ubuntu Intrepid Networkmanager Version: 0.7~~svn20080908t183521+eni0-0ubuntu2 WPA Supplicant version: 0.6.4-2 wireless card: 00:0c.0 Network controller: RaLink RT2561/RT61 802.11g PCI wireless driver:rt61pci I configure my wireless in the interfaces with. iface wlan0 inet static address 192.168.1.10 netmask 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.1.1 dns-nameservers 68.87.85.98 68.87.69.146 wireless-essid [my ssid] wireless-key [my WEP key] it fails while networkmanager is installed, work after I purge network manager. If I ifdown/ifup the interface it looks like everything gets configured, address, netmask, etc but something fails while authenticating so it disassociates from the access point. My next thought was maybe if fails because networkmanager wants to use the wpa-supplicant, but I did not supply wpa options or that WEP fails with wpa-supplicant with my card/driver combination, with some research I found this configuration works.. iface wlan0 inet static address 192.168.1.10 netmask 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.1.1 dns-nameservers 68.87.85.98 68.87.69.146 wpa-ssid [my ssid] wpa-key_mgmt NONE wpa-wep_key0 [my WEP key] .So wpa-supplicant can do WEP with my combination of card and driver. With the above working configuration that uses the wpa-* options I fired up synaptic and selected network-manager-kde for installation, letting it pull in the rest of the networkmanger packages and rebooted the system. After rebooting I opened a terminal and ran ifconfig which displayed not configuration for wlan0 and iwconfig shows encryption being disabled. After doing ifdown, then ifup, then ifconfig shows address, gateway, etc... attempting to ping the router fails, iwconfig shows encryption is still disabled. I copied /var/log/syslog to my home directory for inclusion with this bug report, attachment follows. Then purged the networkmanager packages and rebooted and the wirless works again. ** Affects: network-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- wireless fails when configured in interfaces while networkmanager is installed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/270762 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 208905] [NEW] Apt-listchanges issue with libdb4.6 created db
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: apt-listchanges The Debian maintainer is indicating this is a result of python downgrading the database stuff to only work with db stuff earlier than 4.6, so I don't know if this currently is an issue when upgrading since it's been a known problem there in the lenny/sid stuff. In Hardy I was getting a message indicating the listchanges.db was corrupt. This is the part that bugs me. Tried deleting the file so the db gets rebuilt, same thing. Tried purging apt-listchanges and re-installing same thing. Using synaptic and selecting libdb4.6 for removal so I would only have earlier versions installed results in a message that other packages will be removed, so I cancelled the operation.
