Still not working... though two days ago Synaptic downloaded an update
for several Evolution components.
Since it looks this bug is not THAT critical for evolution/gnome teams
as to fix it quickly (I've struggling on this one for 2 months): Is
there a known workaround for this?

You can turn off the dmesg spam from rt2500 by adding the following line to
/etc/rc.local:
'iwconfig wlan0 power off' without the quotes, of course.
This disables 2.6.32 kernel's futile, possibly un-intended (my
mountall 2.15 is available as a backport to 10.04 LTS.
Try apt or synaptic.
Dev group is working on (at least) mountall 2.5, but I don't know where you'd
get that.
I don't know if either of these will help, but it may be worth a try at least
for 2.15

Anyone caring to verify this may find it convenient to hurry-up the
process to the next fsck.
If showfsck indicates the max count to be 20, then the command
tune2fs -C 21 /dev/sda4, or whatever the Ubuntu partition is, will make the
fsck come up on the very next boot.

With the splash screen _off_ , at 30 seconds of black screen the console

1. For me, the speed problem went away entirely with the latest 10.04 kernel.
2. For me, the new problem of spamming the logs is solved with no performance

A work-around for 540801 confirmed by many is proposed there.

My solution was just to put 'sudo iwconfig wlan0 power off' into /etc/rc.local.
That's how I try to do most of my work-arounds.
I must admit, working around network-manager may _require_ your approach
for some iwconfig selections.

Perhaps the *kernel* part of this problem (here) has been solved,
and the remaining issues resides *elsewhere* in the Ubuntu source.
Two clues in this regard:
1-Similar LITE-ON problems (here) exist in PCLinuxOS with 2.6.18 kernel
are also *resolved* with the Bug 105437 approach; and
2-Fedora
Bug 105437 observation holds the key to my LITE-ON problems:
- solves the delay problem;
- creates /dev/scd0 and mounts scd0 as a cdrom; and
- also allows /dev/scd0 to work as a cdrw.
I'm using 2.6.20-15.27 kernel.

I have a similar problem, to frafu's complaint with 7.04, either 2.6.12
or 2.6.14 kernels, but I describe it this way:
*IDE LITE-ON cdrw on PATA secondary slave position will not mount* with

I think you've probably identified my problem stated in 105353,
and maybe also for 103780, 95105, 96857 and 95407.
I have an ide lite-on cdrw that's not mounting, and probably slowing
down booting by about two minutes besides.
Here's what some of my dmesg looks like (probably during the two
with 2.6.18 kernel exists. On that distro, I
can see the boot time hang-up is the result of three unsuccessful tries at

Ubuntu 6.1 does not automatically install an i810 driver as it should for Intel
865 chipsets. Even so, dmesg will show the message
'agpgart: Detected an Intel 865 Chipset.'
That's the clue: /etc/X11/xorg.conf will need to call for an i810
before installation, using ubuntu live,
secondary drives show up in /dev as
sdb1, sdb5, sdb6, sdb7 for the secondary hd
/dev/cdrom and /dev/cdrw both linked to /dev/scd0
after installion, ubuntu has

The attached lspci shows we have a Gigabyte mb.
I use a new sata drive as primary. I have my old ide hd and cdrw plugged into
ide secondary. For Knoppix and Mepis, the ide drives show up as hdc (for the
ide hard drive) and hdd for the cdrw.
