I have the same problem yet emerald --replace works for me. The question
is is there any way to have it auto start that whenever I log in.

This bug happens to me randomly. I am also running Gutsy.
To work around this I type emerald --replace in a terminal.
Weird bug.

i was able to fix it by completely removing compiz and reinstalling
it..but after I uninstalled compiz, the desktop was totally screwed up.
the title-bar was still missing but the top panel woulbe super imposed
by an open window's menu...none of the mouse clicks to activate windows
worked. to
Same here. I installed (clean install from CD) Tribe 5 and than went
with the updates. After install I enabled the desktop effects (or
whatever is called now) and set to custom. In ccsm I enabled Window
decorations and set the command line to emerald --replace and all
worked fine. However, today I
