Hello again, I can add some more feedback here: 1) Identical machine, same Ubuntu fresh installed from the same media CD, but with a PS2 mouse instead of a USB mouse, is not suffering this. 2) Randomly happening with the machine online (even spare). I get this logged to dmesg, like if the mouse were being disconnected/connected. And this one worked perfectly. The only difference is that the port I plugged in the new one was 3.0, while the crashed one is 2.0. Will test now by having my crashed mouse on a 3.0 USB from boot time - If it doesn't crash, then this problem may be affecting only USB 2.0. Any ideas? I get the same problem. Random mouse lock ups, the keyboard satys responsive. Not every day, but enough to be annoying. Loging out doesn't help, neither does killing off Lightdm and restarting it. Only fix I have found so far is a reboot. I use a USB keyboard with an adaptor to the PS/2 port.
