Setting back to unconfirmed.
The SATA controller is an Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) IDE
Controller (rev 02). I don't know what to make of this. The ICH7s I've
used weren't affected by the great rename of Bug #116996 but it seems
awfully coincidental that you are seeing the same

My hard drive is indeed a sata drive, and hasn't been affected by the
new kernel.
I also get the ghost cdrom showing up in nautilus when I open Places
- Computer, there's an extra CD-ROM 1 which doesn't exist.

The make and model of the device (as much as you know)
The output from the uname -a uname-a.log command
The output from the lspci -vvn lspci-vvn.log command

I'm not exactly sure what you're asking for with make and model of
device. The laptop is a Gateway MT6821 (intel chipsets), and I don't
know much more about the make and model of the optical drive other than
what dmesg tells me: Optiarc DVD RW AD-7530A, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive.
