Using the following intel-drm-next kernel, along with removing "nomodeset" from my boot options, has allowed me to get the intel driver working, like others have reported: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/drm-intel-next/current /linux-image-3.14.0-997-generic_3.14.0-997.201404170342_amd64.deb As well, the nvidia card seems to function correctly with bumblebee, even with the intel-drm-next kernel. I'm seeing this issue on a fresh 14.04 install. However, unlike 13.10, using "nomodeset" and the generic SVGA X drivers seem to work enough to start the display at its native resolution. Just tried the workaround proposed here (use drm-intel-nightly kernel, removed nvidia-prime, and remove "nomodeset" from grub options) and it works just as good, probably a bit better: I can plug-in an external screen, though I lost the main screen if I am to unplug/deactivate the external screen. Suspend seems to fail just as before (blank screen, yet functioning system on resume). I assume those two issues are for another bug report anyway. Note to @penalvch: the previous comment was another workaround for this bug that worked for me, not another bug report. Might be helpful or not, thought I'd just drop it here. After installation of a fresh Ubuntu 13.10 with Secure Boot (and with CSM Disabled in the BIOS), using an internet connection to get updated packages, booting with nomodeset and installing nvidia-prime, I find that X/lightdm works pretty well. I can even activate desktop effects and the whole thing runs very smoothly. However, many features are broken (can't get an extra screen plugged in, can't suspend to RAM/Disk). I have the exact same issue with the laptop... Tried the mainline kernel at http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel- ppa/mainline/v3.13-rc6-trusty/ but the behaviour was the same as with 3.12 : black screen on boot. Had to revert to 3.13 drm-intel-next and it worked OK except when screen is dimmed the laptop is lost and you need to reboot. Unfortunately whilst I get the screen up on boot, the first time the screen is blanked either by power management, or switching a VT or standby(closing lid) - I "loose" the screen and need to do a reboot to get it back. Not very useful unfortunately. I have tried a couple of different 3.12 kernels mainline and zen patches - neither work (original behaviour, no screen at all).
