I had this bug, too (using Hardy with audacious 1.5.0-2). First, there were some files with an ampersand in their name which could not be played, but some of them worked. Additionally, those files differed in that audacious couldn't show the track details (right click on song - View Track

it appears that this problem only occurs on xspf playlists. reloading one of those doesn't play the file. This is because audacious saves the ampersand characters in the playlist file:
