FODT is Flat ODT, in which the file is non-compressed. It's much larger, but makes it easier for the software to save and access parts of it in large files. However, I've followed the bug elsewhere, and learned that FODT isn't supported by OO, so I've given up using it and I'm not going to try to

Hi Brian Actually OO did work for me later on another project with smaller files that didn't have large embedded graphics. I just used ODT format files which are fine when small. However, the experience did cause me to investigate the Mac further; I had hoped to get off commercial software
