but when I try to restart it just hangs right before it should power

Hi: I just updated my system, the startup is faster now, but I still
have a very slow shutdown process.
It started when I updated my system last week, it became very slow to
start and to shutdown. it went from 7 seconds to 30 seconds shutdown.
I've checked on the update manager and I got the
2.6.32-24 Kernel, Lucid 10.04. My PC hangs randomly at shut down. Ubuntu
shut down splash page, a few dots turns from white to red, then it
freezes before reaching the full count.
acpi=off or nomodset to edit in the grub2? is that all?

I'm seeing exactly the same problem on 3 out of 3 older systems with
lubuntu 10.04 on pentium 3s. With acpi on, it intermittently fails to
turn off as described, but restart works. When acpi isn't enabled on one
of the pre 2000 bioses, it consistently does not shut down. Using

Yes, with the latest kernel (2.6.34-999-generic #201005121008), it works now
: it does not hang at shutdown anymore on my Acer laptop.
