[Bug 61607] Re: 3d rendering performance regression Dapper-Edgy with Radeon 9600 M10

2007-03-23 Thread Erik Chakravarty
Is it possible to somehow get hold of the old version 6.5.2-3ubuntu1 of
these mesa packages so at least 3D will work while this bug is in the
pipeline?

They are not in my apt cache and not on archive.ubuntu.com either.

Seems to be working again after a kernel upgrade today.

I think the issue was not with Mesa libs but rather the previous kernel
image version.

Please close. Thanks!

Re: [Bug 61607] Re: 3d rendering performance regression Dapper-Edgy with Radeon 9600 M10

2007-03-20 Thread Erik Chakravarty
It's back! Mesa packages are broken again :-(

Ubuntu 7.04 (PPC)

The following packages were upgraded from 6.5.2-3ubuntu1 to
6.5.2-3ubuntu6 on 20/03/07.

libgl1-mesa-swx11
libgl1-mesa-swx11-dev
libglu1-mesa
libglu1-mesa-dev

and since then there is no direct rendering for my ATI rv350 (r300
driver). Glxgears reports around 100fps and glxinfo says direct
rendering: No.

My xorg.conf is set to XAA acceleration as there were severe performance
problems with EXA (xorg was unusable) since the mesa upgrade from 6.5.1
to 6.5.2.

If this is the only package which is having problems with rendering then
I suggest you take it up with the maintainer.

Acceleration now works with the current Mesa package in Feisty, however
there are severe problems with the EXA acceleration method which causes

Switching to XAA acceleration fixes this.

2007-02-28 Thread b
Hi Timo,

Of course I have recompiled the app before running it under feisty...

Most the examples I have tried just give me a black screen, not very
high CPU usage though. I get the following printed out:

libGL warning: 3D driver claims to not support visual 0x4b
libGL warning: 3D driver claims to not support visual 0x4b
*WARN_ONCE*
File r300_render.c function r300Fallback line 424
Software fallback:ctx-Multisample.Enabled
***
Try R300_SPAN_DISABLE_LOCKING env var if this hangs.

Then when I exit the problem I get this trace:

Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
[Switching to Thread 805510928 (LWP 28311)]

#5 0x1007834c in m_scheduler ()
#6 0x1007bb90 in sys_main ()
#7 0x100866c0 in main ()

Closing the black render window on the other examples always seems to
give a similar trace with glXMakeCurrentReadSGI at the top.

Note that this is code a lot of other people are using

Any suggestions on debugging this further?

Thanks,

.b.

Maybe this bug should be redirected at the mesa packages rather than
linux-xorg-video-ati package since the consensus is that that is where
the problem lies.

Hopefully someone will manage to package mesa 6.5.2 - I am attempting to
compile the DRI libraries to test whether this upgrade will indeed fix
our 3D cards but not getting very far... :-(

Indeed this does look like a duplicate of bug 69607.

Is anyone sure what package is the problem here? The modular Xorg makes
it damn hard to tell where the problem lies.

xserver-xorg-video-ati provides radeon_drv.so
and libgl1-mesa-dri provides radeon_dri.so r300_dri.so

I found this page:
http://dri.freedesktop.org/wiki/R300_20Portal

Looks like things are known to work on 6.5.2, so I suppose we have to
wait for that to get into (feisty?)

Too bad ubuntu is technically non-functional for me, since 3D is all I
do on this machine. Looks like even sid only has 6.5.1

2006-12-15 Thread fuoco
I have succeeded in backporting newer mesa packages from debian repositories
into my edgy system. This has resulted in 3D working much better. instead of
20-25 fps i used to get in glxgears I now get around 1500 fps. Plus glxgears
doesn't exhaust 100% cpu anymore. These I thought were very good signs. Next
thing I tried was to run ppracer. Before the game including the menus were
unusable. Now the menus are ok, but in the game itself I only get 3 fps - it's
playable but hardly.
I don't know what that means. If anyone has any idea what could it be, and what
other tests I could run, and in general try to get more into this problem I
would appreciate...

2006-10-26 Thread Jean Privat
Hello, I just installed edgy form the liveCD on my powerbook G4 and it
seems that I have the same issue.

[Bug 61607] Re: 3d rendering performance regression Dapper-Edgy with Radeon 9600 M10

2006-10-20 Thread Herbert V. Riedel
well, I'm regularly apt-get upgrading my edgy install, and with todays
set of versions it's still the same here...

if you want, I can still try to download and burn a live-cd...

[Bug 61607] Re: 3d rendering performance regression Dapper-Edgy with Radeon 9600 M10

2006-10-19 Thread Timothy Smith
There's been some fixes to ATI support on the PPC since Beta 1 of Edgy
was released. Can you try running a daily live-cd to see if your
problems have been fixed.

** Description changed:

-
- on my powerbook 15, the integrated graphics adapter, suffers from a serious
performance degradation after upgrading to edgy; UseFBDev is false, and
glxinfo shows working DRI; I've tried with EXA and XAA accelmethod with no
notable difference

+ serious performance degradation after upgrading to edgy; UseFBDev is
+ false, and glxinfo shows working DRI; I've tried with EXA and XAA

but running glxgears takes up all cpu-time and performs very slow as if
it wasn't hardware-accelerated; furthermore the following appears on the
  console:

  [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ glxgears
libGL warning: 3D driver claims to not support visual 0x4b

Try R300_SPAN_DISABLE_LOCKING env var if this hangs.

btw, on my mac-mini, with its radeon 9200 chipset, 3d acceleration works
properly with edgy
