I'm not sure, but I think that fglrx is to blame for that. I had a HD3200 and every time the kernel was updated I had trouble. Try the radeon driver instead (I guess you need to unblacklist it firts) I'm running it pretty reliably on my X300, Intel 4965, but haven't tested all that thoroughly.

I've tested the experimental firmware (iwlwifi-5000-exp-8.83.5.1) with a 5300 card and kernel 2.6.36.2. Initially it seems to have solved the problem. iwconfig reported bit rate maxes out at 300 Mb/s (though it drops to 6 Mb/s during inactivity). File transfer rates are significantly greater
