In my previous comment i had put that i had to do some manual settings so that
it stays on systray. I would presume thus an update
should be provided for a permanent fix on this. may be the settings which i
have done should be taken into consideration in that update.
If I understand your comment correctly, it is intended behavior that
applications that only have indicators in the systray have to be
whitelisted to appear there. Increasingly, applications are being ported
to have app-indicators and therefore at some point the manual setting
you refer will not be

I did the following:
gsettings set com.canonical.Unity.Panel systray-whitelist
['JavaEmbeddedFrame', 'Mumble', 'Wine', 'Skype', 'hp-systray', 'scp-
dbus-service', 'Pidgin']
and my skype and pidgin are shown on the systray. Now, i can find my
skype.. Lets see how long it lasts... :)
Note: In
I feel its a problem of unity itself. I also dont' find apps like
pidgin..etc I need to kill them to open them again.

I have recently upgraded to 11.10 version (64 bit). The most common
problem i am facing is unable to find my running apps during alt+tab
I reassign the issue to Unity, as it involves a problem with alt-tab.

Unable to find running Apps
Can close this as Not a bug. I didn't restarted my machine after
installation. After i did that this problem doesnt' appear anymore.

Ooops i was too quick... the bug still exists... now all of a sudden i
dont' see my skype. May be also depends on the skype latest
installation.
