Actually, this is the (still-unfixed) 1440x1440 bug. For whatever
reason Ubuntu is detecting this square resolution instead of the proper
(e.g. 1440x900) res. Marking to the dupe.

This bug should be fixed in Gutsy. If not check out if xorg uses the
i810 or the intel driver. If it uses the i810 driver change to intel. If
everything works fine after Xorg restart and you use the latest Gutsy
version report your output of 'lspci -vvnn' to this bug report

I have the same problem. It seems like it never probes my DDC/EDID
properly. 1680x1050, 16:10 widescreen here.
Adding 1680x1050 to Xorg works, although it seems it should be auto-
detected.
nvidia-settings seems to be able to detect my resolution, and I was able
to switch it

better. Your '/etc/X11/xorg.conf' lists 1600x1600 as the highest
resolution yet your '/var/log/Xorg.0.log' file shows the monitor
supporting 1680x1050. Have you tried manually setting that resolution
