added the next time i reboot. This is annoying, as I have huge

Actually, disabling DRI did help.
Sorry about that, I didn't realise I needed to put a 'Disable "dri"' in
my xorg.conf, instead I just commented out everything that said DRI in
it.

I am pasting below the output of dmesg and lsusb.I booted with problem
devices and next time booted and plugged them in.I can see the light on
thumb drive going off right as kernel is loading when booted with.
One interesting sidenote : when by mistake I had a USB scanner plugged
in with the thumb

I figured out what I needed to make this work. Right-mouse-click on
desktop to "Change Desktop background", then click on the Theme tab to
start. Click on "Customize" at that point and click on the "Icons" tab
of the "Customize Theme" window and choose an icon set. The software

Hi, I have the same problem. I cant't find the xubuntu-resticted-extras
package (how i see in ubuntu guide

I was experiencing this problem in a clean and standard install of Gusty
(nvidia-glx-new driver and Normal Visual Effects). I agree with others
who said this is a critical bug. On one hand, the hardware is very
common (in fact, I have the impression that nVidia is generally the
"recommended" graphi

Reversing the package xserver-xorg-video-ati to the version 1:6.6.3-2ubuntu6
crashes X with the same behaviour in my case.
I'm using a Mobility Radeon X700 with the default open source driver and remove
the card from blacklist manually for testing.

X freezes when compiz is enabled on ATI
Obviously this is only a solution if our BIOS has these settings.
On my HP laptop there's no such settings in the BIOS. In fact, the BIOS
has only 3 settings to change :(

I do apologize for frequent posting, but it looks like Evilspy's
solution is *REAL* (kudos to him). It's probably the simplest possible
workaround available right now (apart from eliminating compiz entirely).
At least, it works for me as well.
