I've checked a few more things, firstly I found this in syslog at
startup, missing from my earlier attachment:

Well, I updated to Intrepid and the bug is gone. I don't know what
happened. Just a guess: my boot partition is relatively small, and
lots of old versions of the kernel had built up there. This gave me
space to do the Intrepid installation all at one go, rather than the
piecemeal way I did

I just upgraded to Hardy over the weekend. Since then, I've found that
many applications are randomly losing focus--it happens about once every
20-30 seconds. This has become exceedingly annoying. For example, in

I would guess Metacity, because that's the name of one of my running
processes. There's nothing named compiz or anything similar running.
Honestly though, I'm not sure--how do I find out?
Also, is Metacity used by mwm? The bug *does* stay there when I leave
Gnome.

I had the same issue in Ubuntu 11.10. FontForge version 20110225 works; the
older version 20100429 in the Ubuntu repository doesn’t. Aleksandr's workaround
worked for me.
1. Remove old FontForge.
2. Make sure that git and pythod-dev are installed.
3. Open a terminal window:

Sorry...don't think I can help. I upgraded to Jaunty this last weekend
without this bug showing up again. My best guess is still related to
the piecemeal approach I took when I installed Hardy--but honestly, this

I have the same issue. Boot frequently hangs with blinking cursor top
left. Can only power down and retry. Happens about 50% of the time. Rest
of the time get plymouth main process terminated etc. as described in
previous posting.

I don't know if Ubuntu have any plans to use Grub2 for PowerPC, but
currently there is an easily fixable bug with os-prober:
Existing installations that use yaboot will normally have their root
defined like so in a yaboot.conf:
root=UUID=big-long-number-
Attached is the patch. If anybody wants to fix this on their system
then all you need to do is edit the file /usr/lib/linux-boot-
probes/mounted/40yaboot and apply the changes.

Installing on and older Asus z62f laptop with built-in webcam. Happens
on every laptop of this model, so not a faulty hardware issue.

Lars, are you sure this is the same error as back in December? The logs
in your duplicate bug report give more information to go on. If you
know python (which I don't) I think you would be able to do some
investigating of the problem. It looks like it is caused by an empty
string.

You should have a package called python3 according to the manifest.
Does it actually copy the files with the line removed? Do you see
