I see slightly different behaviour. Settings reset on every log out,
but not on suspend/unsuspend. And not all settings seem to reset. The
only one that I notice that resets is the touchpad speed setting on the
speed tab. After log in, if I tweak the speed setting a little, it kicks

Sure, I use gpds to enable scrolling with the trackpoint, but I also use
it to set the touchpad speed. It's waaay too fast by default on natty
(and I think lucid and maverick too) on my Thinkpad W510, and I've
noticed the same on an X120e. What's more, the sliders aren't scaled
properly it seems.

the VPN submenu are there, and they have their expansion arrows, but the

I think the problem I was writing about was a suspend/resume problem.
The gconf change fixed that for me. It seems some of us here are talking
about a logout/login problem. The two might be different.
I've now noticed that after login, my touchpad speed setting is way
faster than it should be.

Following the advice of http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Category:W510, I
unloaded the xhci module by adding the line:
SUSPEND_MODULES=xhci
to the file /etc/pm/config.d/unload_modules. That file didn't exist, so
I had to create it. Now I can suspend and hibernate fine, although only
once. After

sleep or hibernate problems on my Thinkpad W510 in Win7 x64, regardless
of how (start menu, Fn+F4, screensaver, or lid) or how many times in a
