I was wrong: sha1 didn't solved it really. I now have all modules loaded that i
need (new ones loop, cbc and blkcipher) were missing and now it works one day
and the other day not.
Seems to me like some kind of race condition between loading the modules and
crytosetups try to open the device.

But it's from 2001, and on my firefox 2.0 on my windows xp system (I use it
now) it works good.

Backup works! :-)
Just before running the beta11 version I noticed that the ver file on
the server was empty. I did some cleaning up (deleted old backups) and
now it works. I've tried both full and incremental backup.

I disagree, this bug renders Ubuntu/Gnome useless in situations when
working with other workstations in a domain.
Having a central file server for user and group data is very common,
like pam-mounting a users home when logging in or just using a common
cifs share for a group of workers.
