Still not fixed?
Synaptic's development disappoints me more and more. I think we'll have to keep
0.75 in Mint 17 if no one is gonna do anything about the bugs.

It's problematic for one simple reason: APT ceases to function normally
until you remove the offending files and update the package index again.

Public bug reported:
Steps to reproduce:
1. Make sure software-properties-gtk isn't installed, or Synaptic won't launch
its internal repositories editor.
2. Run Synaptic and proceed to the repo editor (Settings - Repositories).
3. Select any repo and press the Delete button.
4. Get segfault:

That's good to hear; need more testers though.
I also filed a related bug as I think the real problem is with gksu, not
synaptic: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libgksu/+bug/1216045
I wish any of the maintainers at least left a reply.

Note: do it as root. Then run synaptic via gksu.

Public bug reported:
Encountered in Ubuntu 13.04 and Mint 15.
Steps to reproduce:
Method A:
1. gksu synaptic
2. Turn off Settings - Preferences - General - Show package properties in
the main window if it was on (or else you won't get a lot of warnings in
stderr).
3. Click on package list
1. The original poster (Roman Stingler) clearly stated this: When I
downgrade gtk3* from 3.8.2-1 to 3.4.2-6 it works again. Unfortunately,
he marked the bug as done while there was no fix but only a local
workaround.
2. The bug affect a lot more software and is really in gtk3-engines-unico:

Check if it's greyed out only if you start synaptic without
administrative privileges and appears when you start it via gksu.
I guess software-properties-gtk has been moved to suggests because
synaptic now has its own repo manager which starts if software-
properties-gtk is not installed.
Couldn't manage to freeze it when running in non-administrative mode, no
matter if it's synaptic or synaptic . It freezes only when run via
gksu and only if you scroll with the arrow keys instead of mouse (just
as kmb42vt reported).
Also, no usual GTK warnings are printed in the console until you
For the sake of completeness, the bug about these warnings is here:

Guys, if anyone here uses Kubuntu 13.04 or Mint 15 KDE, please try it
there with kdesudo instead of gksu.
I couldn't get it to freeze. I don't know if it affects something, but
kdesudo spits all the messages sent to stderr right away, while gksu
holds them all somewhere and will unload them all
There's no point in it: sudo is for console apps, gksu is for GUI ones.
Try also this: turn the aforementioned setting on once (or just start
synaptic with it turned on), then off, and only then start working with
the package list, e.g. browsing, selecting, scrolling with both keys and
mouse,
It's been implemented in the network manager itself, but it's not in the applet
