In some places (namely the luksOpen used when typing in a password) in
/lib/cryptsetup/cryptdisks.functions you use the undefined CRYPTCMD
variable (I hope I remembered this correctly;-). This causes messages
during bootup about the command luksOpen not being found.
The newest version fixes most issues my patch addressed (when abusing
the check scripts;-).
Let's just close it.

I have removed the atheros modules from my system and get no more oops
during bootup.
Sound is still missing...
The mixers do work and I can change all the usual settings in those
applications, but there is nothing to be heared, independent of the
mixer settings I choose.

I have a setup where a encrypted partition is mounted in /home/username
whenever a user logs in.
The passphrase to that LUKS encrypted partition (actually a logical
volume in LVM) is stored in a file that is encrypted using openssl (with

I checked some more: My original problem is solved, network manager

Ubuntu keeps hoarding broken symlinks in /usr/share/man. In my system

I got a laptop where suspend_to_disk can not work. It is a thinkpad T43p
where in theory suspend_to_disk does work (and it indeed does on other
laptops of the same make), but due to my crypted swap drive it can not
work on this one particular

udev problem.
We blacklisted ath_pci and now thinks work fine. We added ath_pci to
/etc/modules and that works around the issue:-)

The boot process stops for several minutes in the udev script. That is
right after the bluetooth stuff is initialized. There is no output
during or after that hang, so it is not noticeable in the dmesg output.
What else can I try?

Oh, I did that. That is why I know it gets stuck in the udev init
script.
It does not produce any output after inserting the bluetooth modules and
just sits there. A couple of minutes later it continues and the udev
init script exits with return code 0.
Switching to upstart does not change
This still happens with kernel 2.6.17-8-generic.
Still hangs while executing the loading hardware drivers init script.
What can I do to help debug this? It is a *really* annoying behavior.

I went ahead and modified a couple of files to apply more restrictive
mount options to the virtual filesystems.
The initramfs mounts the first set of FSes, so here is a patched version
of that.

I was not sure whether this broke boot-up or not since I converted grub
and fstab back before rebooting:-)
I am pretty sure now that it does break boot up since the LVM driver do
not get an entry in /dev/disks/by-id/ ...
