FYI it's not just gnome-panel that only appears on desktop 1, but icons,

Just checked the upstream bug link. It hasn't even been assigned to
anybody and is priority 3, which seems pretty low. If that really is
the source of the problem, it's probably a good idea if those posting to
this issue also post to the upstream issue. Otherwise it doesn't look
like it's going

Here is a patch that should work. Please test it with the following commands:
$ mkdir /tmp/upgrader
$ cd /tmp/upgrader
$ wget
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/feisty/main/dist-upgrader-all/current/feisty.tar.gz
$ tar xzvf feisty.tar.gz
$ patch -p1 symlink-fix.diff
$ sudo ./feisty
and let

Mplayer works fine untill i play a song with rhythmbox. After that
mplayer works, but it cannot play full-screen video. If i want to wacht
a file in full-screen mode i've to close rhythmbox.
