External keyboards have a separate layout. After connecting your
keyboard, go to Language in System settings. You should see a line for
the on-screen keyboard and another for your external keyboard, where you
can choose the appropriate layout.

were more likely to be on summer vacation than, say, in October, but it
was already bricked so it didn't care.

I have quite a lot of these as well. I've always assumed they were for
websites asking for your location through the web browser, but that's
just a guess.
It would be great to have a way do delete them, though.
