Forgot to add, we've already made the decision to stay with Xfce for 18.10 and are adding Plasma as the first additional desktop environment. That said, we're a very, very small bunch and can't make a ton of changes right now, unless we get the manpower. Bear in mind that we can only work with what is already in the Ubuntu repositories, unless we can get some more people working on packaging. With that, I'd like to invite you to join us! We definitely need more people helping to make Ubuntu Studio an even better design and multimedia OS. With your interests, if those items you mentioned can be packaged, we'd definitely invite you to do that as it would help to make ideas such as yours to become realities. Hi Charlie, Glad to see an enthusiastic face! I just missed your message in the IRC channel by about 10 minutes. If you see anything on the wiki related to Ubuntu Studio that is outdated, inaccurate, or simply missing, please shoot me a line either in the mailing list or in the channel. See you around! [ubuntu-studio-devel] Considerations from a video and photo editing perspective.
Hi all. I've been using ubuntu studio as my main work OS since 2014 or something. I noticed the debate between Gnome and KDE (and Budgie) as may desktop environment for the new version. I have nothing to add to that, but I'd like to suggest Equilux as a main or optional GTK theme (in case ubuntu studio sticks to GTK). Equilux is a material design based neutral gray theme, it might sound unimportant, but for ppl that do photo or video color correction, having a neutral gray theme is a great help. (idc about 'material design' guidelines, but they work). https://github.com/ddnexus/equilux-theme Also, I hate how ubuntu studio comes with a bunch of low quality free fonts, it makes it awkward to browse your font catalog. Maybe having less, but better fonts could help Ubuntu Studio be a better tool (anyway, anyone can get as many fonts as they want from dafont or -better- sites like Squirrel Font or Open Font, so less fonts might be a good way to go). I'd like to share with you a well curated, free font collection, that could be used as a guideline: http://usemodify.com/ That's all I have to say. Thanks for a great design and multimedia OS. -- ubuntu-studio-devel mailing list ubuntu-studio-devel@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-studio-devel
Re: [ubuntu-studio-devel] hey
i also wanted to mention that if i'm able to acquire all of my gear, i'll be able to record some demonstrational arrangements to showcase what ubuntu studio's capable of doing because i firmly know that ubuntu studio can produce professional recordings and also works of art and even blockbuster movies that make it to the movie theaters. and hell, even help authors write best selling novels. as you can see, my head's full of ideas. and ubuntu studio's 'linux for creative people!' love it! hey erich! thank you for the warmest welcomes and i've got my launchpad account already and i've been an active tester of several distros (ubuntu desktop as it was changing to using gnome, kubuntu, ubuntu studio, linux mint) and i love doing it because i get to see my little bit of work handed out to the world. #ubuntustudio-devel: i'll definitely be hanging out in our channel a lot more but i've stepped in a few times before and i look forward to being in the room more. weekly saturday night meetings: awesome!! i'll be there as much as I can. Re: [ubuntu-studio-devel] gnome vs kde (regarding: The problem with gnome)

I have no idea what are these "alternate DEs" you > mentioned, I'll go read about it. There's a few questions to answer here. First of all, our default DE is Xfce. It was chosen back in 2010 (long before many of us became involved) because its function was familiar to users of GNOME 2 at the time (MATE wasn't yet a thing) since that was the DE. That is, simply put, the reason it was chosen. With MATE being matured, we decided to explore DEs again, but through many IRC conversations and conversations in this very mailing list, we have decided to keep Xfce as default for now. If you have a default, all other DEs are alternatives, so that's where the term "alternative DE" came from. As an example, Ubuntu is the main operating system, the flavors (Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Lubuntu, Ubuntu MATE, Ubuntu Budgie, Ubuntu Kylin, and Ubuntu Studio) are all alternatives to the main Ubuntu. > I replied because I see Len has a bad image about GNOME's team, which > is false. That's Len's opinion, and he's not the only one with that opinion at this time. My friend and long-time GNOME user Noah Chelliah of the Ask Noah Show (asknoahshow.com) has also come out and spoken with a similar sentiment, as has Alan Pope of Canonical (he did so on an episode of the Linux Unplugged podcast, which I am unable to link at this time). I am sure the GNOME team's intentions are good, but for some people it's simply not a vision they want to follow. So, that's the perception. But, if you continue this discussion, it's just going to go in circles. We understand your passion, but at some point this discussion needs to stop simply because it will go nowhere. I know you have the best of intentions (as do we), but keeping this discussion going would be futile.
