What about getting it packaged and ready for 9.10?
It's an interesting thought but there was to have been something
available in 9.04 to enable Wacom tablet buttons to be programmed within
the Hal setup. From what I read, this did not happen due to lack of time
but may well be in 9.10.

the options in your old x.org config file have been commented out. Look
in /etc/hal/fdi/policy to see if there are any files relating to the
wacom tablet. It may be named 10-linuxwacom.fdi, or something similar.

You should be able to skip the restore step, if you make sure that the
partition isn't formatted. Since Hardy (8.04), the /home directory on
a single root partition is not deleted when doing a fresh install.
I'd still back up, just in case.
