Thanks Steve for your advice, I will keep exploring new things about Proton.
I've been using their VPN on my Ubuntu 20.04 laptop for a while now, and so
far I really like ProtonVPN.

Good seeing Cody, and Ryein at the meeting this evening, plus was able to
find out new things regarding Thunderbird as well.
BTY: ProtonMail runs in Thunderbird mail via Proton Gateway app ;-)

I'll be there with some of the computer equipment I got at the Garten GEARS
store, which I'll be installing Linux / Ubuntu on during our meeting. If
anyone is interested the Garten GEARS store is having a holiday sale today
where everything will be 40% the sticker price. So if you looking for a
good computer to install Ubuntu on now is the time. The Sale is from
11:00am to 3:00pm, however the good deals will be gone before 3:00pm,

darn easy. Whatcha think?


It was indeed public, although Hangouts On Air is limited to ten people, so
it was a little weird to have one person lag out only to be immediately
replaced by someone else, haha. I was waiting for Leo's terrible internet
to disappear and have him replaced. Basically, we need other tech anyway.

I agree that it's a good idea. I think it's a nice way to make experienced
Linux folks available for less experienced folks' questions in an
approachable manner (IRC is a little more opaque). It's also a good way to
grow a LoCo beyond one's immediate locality so that when one has, say, a
release party, more people might make the trek.

caught Dave's NW-tech radio show during noontime on KMUZ.org, he gave this
event high praises, saying Ubuntu is a great replacement for Windows, an OS
made by the community that lets a user take command of their own system,
making their own operating system.  Thanks Dave for the shout-out and
great! praise.

While I was downtown Salem, I handed one of our flyers to a guy named
Steve, who runs Linux Mint DE.
So not sure if Steve will make it this Friday or not.

Can't wait for Friday to get here, hope to see you at The Place to Be..

Che,  these are held every first and third Friday of every month when said
days don't fall on a major holiday,  that should make a bit easier to plan.

It's looking like it's for sure I won't be there, meeting just finished up,
went to prep my laptop for boot, and grub complains about the partitions
not being present (something I can fix, but it'll take more time than I
have if I were attending), and I think that laptop just had it's partition
table go corrupt. somewhat easily fixable, but like I said, time consuming.

I've arrived at the clubhouse early, because the networking problem was no
my client's fault, so made it before traffic . I like it when networking
problems are not my own, their mail server went down.

That is a great documentary and well worth watching, not just for GNU/Linux
users but anyone interested in computer history. It should really be a must
watch for IT students, just to give them an opposing view point to the norm.

great documentary - "Revolution OS" a short 2001, 85mim, historical film
about GNU/Linux and the FOSS movement.

As far as passwords go, I have always found that "PassWord" works great for
me. The only issue I have is that FB keeps messaging my friends with spam

There is a high liklihood that Nathwill and I will be coming out to 
Salem tomorrow to attend

Alright, I may not get the message (be it via email or whatnot) until after

30 GB drive. I tried several times to install Xubuntu... Live boot
worked (took almost an hour to boot), including internet, but when
trying to boot into installer, it claimed there was no internet and
froze. Does anyone have a pet install procedure that might work on
this, and/or have some suitable old RAM that might speed things up?

I have a 1GB PC-3200 stick that my desktop wouldn't take (Had bought 3 
sticks, but the 3rd slot was botched) but with a CPU like that, I don't 
know how much help even 3 GB will be, as without a decent CPU, large 
amounts of RAM is wasted. I'll bring it to the Ubuntu Hour if you attend 
if your PC takes PC-3200.

The last time I remember a GUI desktop being supported for 256 MB
machines was Dapper Drake, 6.06. By 8.04, anyway, a desktop was
indicated to require 512 MB.

Of course, if you don't run a GUI, you're home free. You can install and
run the server edition, with its command line interface, on as little as
128 MB. And you wondered why old timers call GUIs bloated.
