Chase: I added the debug statements as you suggested. When I'm getting
the incorrect behavior the number of touches seen by x-x-i-s is still
correct.
Whether I get a left- or right-click behavior when I push down on the
clickpad definitely seems to correspond to where my finger is on the
It's not really a separate touchpad, it's a /dev/input/mouseX device
registered by the mousedev driver for the same touchpad, kind of a
legacy mouse device for applications that need that sort of thing. It's
there in the good and bad case, and X seems to be (correctly) ignoring

Upon further inquiry I've found out that the ConnectorType property that
gnome_rr_output_is_laptop() just isn't implemented for most of the video
drivers in X, and it isn't likely to be fixed in the near future.
So for precise something along the lines of the patch I've attached is
going to be

I haven't seen this crash since updating, although it's feasible that it
could be masked by all the other desktop-related hangs and crashes I've
been getting. I'd say you can close it or mark it as a duplicate,
whichever you want to do, and I can reopen if I see the issue again.
