After testing the patch on amd64, I have not noticed any instabilities,
and all GL programs tested so far seem to work normally and much faster.
The whole system is tremendously more responsive and my GLX gears get
double the scores on my Radeon 200M that it was getting with the
unpatched mesa.
Today I installed kernel 2.6.30-rc8- now testing.
When I tried 2.6.30-rc2 (only runs with no UXA setting) my desktop kept
freezing and had to unfreeze by switching terminals often.
With 2.6.30-rc8 (no UXA) I get a clean login screen and no desktop freezes
(after 30 mins)

There were lots of changes to this area of DRM in 2.6.30rc7 and rc8 -
could be worth trying this kernel and seeing if the problem goes away?
If it does I don't think it will be too hard to identify the exact

Switching the Appearance-Visual Effects to None is also an annoying

Dear Gear,
You can maintain your idea about the source of the problem. But installing
the old 2.4 version of the intel driver the problem disappeared.

Sorry for answering this late, I've been very busy.
I thought of opening a new bug report but since it's related to this
one, infact it's basicaly the same bug, I didn't want to make another
duplicated bug but, if it's necessary, I'll make a new bug report.

I notice a very similar crash on PIII old computer with 3dfx card.
Even with graphics safe mode livecd option, it just automatically logs in,
shows the desktop, crashes back to the login screen, logs in, crashes, goes
back to login screen and auto-logs in, etc. infinite loop.

Xorg crashed
Just tried the new kernel (2.6.30-rc8 amd64) and the symptoms are exactly the
same. It would seem that this bug is probably a mainline issue.
