I managed to do this somehow.
sudo mount -t cifs -o username=squeezeboxserver,uid=123,gid=1001
//192.168.178.1/Playlists /mnt/NAS/Playlists
sudo mount -t cifs -o username=squeezeboxserver,uid=1000,gid=1000
//192.168.178.1/Music /mnt/NAS/Music
uid=123:1001 is squeezeboxserver:squeezeboxserver
I set up everything for nfs4 idmapping. After a reboot, the NAS decided
to revert any changes. That was fun.
Then I tried to beat the system by creating matching uids and gids. Both
NAS' uid and gid are already in use on ubuntu, so I tried to match the
ubuntu uid and gid on the NAS. But the NAS
This is getting frustrating. I mounted the share like this in fstab:
Code:
//192.168.178.1/Multimedia /mnt/NAS cifs
credentials=/root/.lmscredentials,uid=123,gid=1001,rw,nounix,iocharset=utf8,file_mode=0777,dir_mode=0777
0 0

I created a new share

I tried that. Mounting works fine, but I only have RO access to the
share via ubuntu.

I'm having fun with permissions again. What I want to achieve:
_*ubuntu_(LMS)*_ <-- user: squeezeboxserver (RW) --> _*NAS*_ <-- user:
myuser RW --> _*Windows*_
I rip CDs on my Windows machine and copy them to the NAS share. Doing
that makes me the owner, the group is "everyone", and octal
I just realized that I can simply use the already present samba share.
If I mount it using samba, I can select squeezeboxserver as user for
that mount. And it seems to be working.
Is using Samba a bad idea? I think I need this anyway to access the NAS
share on Windows.

This seems to be a similar question. But I don't understand the answer.
:rolleyes:
Does this help in any way? I

This works with 775. Is there any configuration that will work with the
config above? Any group I can put dear squeezeboxserver and myself into?
If not, I'd have to chan
Hey d6jg, thank you for your help!

In QNAP's ControlPanel I added the user squeezeboxserver to the the
group
Ubuntu is up and running, LMS is up and running - but without a music
library. I managed to mount the NAS' "Multimedia" folder, but I cannot
access most subfolders in midnight commander, unless I start it with
sudo. I'm able to access these folders with my username using Windows,
but I guess

Got my answer right here, never mind.

As I didn't want to wait any longer for the NUC11 to become available
(again) and also didn't want to pay these ridiculously high prices for
the NUC10, I finally got my hands on a fairly priced and reasonably
recent NUC i3 (8th Gen) with 8GB of RAM. The plan is to run the latest

I'm not unfamiliar with Linux, I'm just bad at it compared to Windows. I
used Ubuntu, Zenwalk and I think even SUSE some years back, but it was
never my primary system.
Then I'll go with Ubuntu LTS without GUI, skipping zfs. Awesome! As soon
as I have that NUC, I'll be back with tons of stupid
Because my NAS is getting too slow for my LMS plugins (Custom Browse), I
tested LMS on an Intel NUC i3 on Windows. That worked pretty great, but
I cannot use this PC for LMS longterm. So I decided to use another Intel
NUC, dedicated to LMS. And maybe Nextcloud. And I want to use Linux

Add

your "Additional Repositories" in Settings / Plugins.

I don't know if this is related, but when I played the provided mp3, I
got this in the log:
