Re: [libreoffice-users] Mail merge
Dear Alex Thanks for the link, I had no idea of the shear quantity of bugs that are in the LO Mail merge feature, had I have known I would never have considered it, especially as there a numerous new ones being reported and the old ones as you say have been there for years - Mail merge in essence not only proves to me that it is unusable, but growing in this arena with others. I would think that greying out this option would be one answer, but then how would we find the bugs? It prompts the question does anything work properly and when I mean properly I mean fully, no bugs, no workarounds, no macro's, no file editing, no putting one thing in front of another, with full up to date documentation tutorials etc. - ( my granddads answer to everything when the revolution comes) At present I use LO as a MS doc reader / converter for incoming email attachments, which seems to work very well (but then excluding *.rtf files) , but I would genuenly like to use LO fully in the future. But after the horror of that Bug list - the developers have some mountain to climb. With word processing, I would have thought that once you get past fonts and indexing - mailmerge comes next in the pecking order. One good thing - I know how to access the bug list before I explore LO further. thanks John B -- On 26/06/2011 22:10, Alexander Thurgood wrote: Le 26/06/11 16:44, John B a écrit : Hi John, 1) On re-opening The database lost its connection to the letter and you had a chore to re-link the data fields in the *.csv file to those in the letter. [libreoffice-users] SubForms and Photographs in LO Base
Hi All I can REALLY use some help!! I'm using LO 3.40 on Linux Mint 9 KDE. I'm trying to re-set-up my Members Database on this platform with a SubForm to record eMails and Photographs. I had this working, (without the SubForm), in OO Base but it will not open in LO so am trying to re-create it. Will the SubForm be a part of the main Form or will it come up over the top of the Main Form with a button? If the latter how do you do this Button? The main question however is 'How do you do SubForms?' I have gone through all the Forums and Googled for details and the more I dig the more confused I get!! AND nothing seems to work and different answers seem to contradict each other. Can anyone give me straight forward step-by-step instructions please? I have my main 'Contacts Table' and an 'eMail Table' and a Main Form called 'Contacts'. I have set the Master Key called ID to be the link. But that's as far as I get. Photographic question - I have read that LO keeps all it's records in memory when you open it so if you have large records this slows the whole thing down (just what is happening to me!!). Each of my records has three graphics, a 'Status Marker' and two thumbnail Photos. Then I came across an article to LINK to the photos on the Database rather than to include them, (which is the default). This seems like a good direction to go in because it will cut down the size of each record and would give me the added benefit of automatically being able to update the photos on-the-fly by just over-writing the photo in the folder with a new one which the DB will fetch next time you open it!! But again same situation as above. All the answers I find on the net seem contradictery. Again has anyone got clear step-by-step instructions for this. Also are there any downsides to doing this? I tried to find something about this in the documentation without success. Someone pointed out elsewhere in this thread, but it's a big thread and easy to miss. To insert the variables, just go to INSERT FIELDS OTHER (or just hit CTRL-F2). Then click on the Variables tab, highlight User Field in the left column, give your variable a name (no spaces!), give it a value, and hit Insert. After that, if you want to insert the variable you can go through the same process (except you can just click on the name of the variable from the Selection list and hit Insert) or you can copy/paste the variable from elsewhere. Then, any time you double-click on the variable anywhere in the document and change the value, it changes it throughout the document. Re: [libreoffice-users] LibreOffice and printers
Hi. I think that it isn't a LibreOffice problem. Probably you made a printer from Printer Debian Feature (Menu-Printer). In this case you have to eliminate the printer from there and check the other as default. It is because as my experience, LibreOffice use this cups to get the available printers installed in Operative System. If you keep both installed, and tp1 as default, LibreOffice gets it as a first option. Re: [libreoffice-users] LibreOffice and printers
Hello Sigrid, Thanks for the hint, spadmin (under the same path in debian) only shows tp0. It seems to work on printers defined in /etc/cups/cups.conf. I suspect there must be some other place where LibreOffice looks for its printers. Now I have got my original printer back (from repair!) and have eliminated the second one in the respective .cfg-files of cups and turboprint. However , when I print something under LibreOffice, it still offers me BOTH printers as a choice. But, ofcourse tp1 doesn't really exist anymore. How do I eliminate it under LibreOffice. This is certainly only a cosmetic issue, but I would still be interested in understanding it. Thanks you could try removing the not needed printer with spadmin On my system you can find this program in /opt/libreoffice/program/spadmin So my guess would be, that it is in a similar place for Debian. Try FILESAVE AS and select RTF as the file type. You will get a dialog box asking if you are sure. I do not know the which version of RTF LO fully supports currently. The last version released is 1.9.1. My understanding is this will be the last release of the RTF standard by MS. [libreoffice-users] Re: LibreOffice won't start
Stephan: You could also try to bypass the recovery process. In a command interface (Start - Run - cmd), try the following: soffice -norestore Stephan: It might be necessary navigate to the directory where soffice resides (if there is no environment set) before you try the above command, but I'm really not sure. I haven't personally tried it, but from what I read it should skip the recovery process, which seems to be giving you some trouble. That works. Thanks. Once I started writer that way the other shortcuts (calc etc) worked too. Once I shut writer the normal shortcuts went back to recovery. I think there must be a recovery trigger file or registry setting that is causing the restore to trigger. Any thoughts on that?
