Re: [libreoffice-users] Installation options are remembered?
Hi :) I just install LibreOffice. Then go to Tools - Options - Java or the newer path is Tools - Options - Advanced and make sure the top tick-box is UNticked so that no java is being used anywhere. It lists all the instances of Java on my machine which is handy, because if there are any then i just uninstall them. If an Extension or anything needs java then a pop-up should appear telling me it can't do whatever. I can then choose whether to try to re-enable java and retry the Extension or wizard or whatever or to find a different way of achieving the result i want. Since i don't have Java on any Windows machine i tend to go with the latter approach. I've not been aware of having Java problems in LibreOffice, or maybe i have just forgotten but i just steer well clear now anyway jic. LibreOffice is a single integrated program with a core section (most of the installation) and the individual components (Writer, Calc, Base, Draw, Impress, etc.) which each add 5-10 MiB of installed files. All of the components share the core section. They even use some of the files from other components. For example, Base forms and reports use Writer files to create or modify them. Impress uses Draw and Writer functions . Thanks for the replies, to you and Tom Davies. Yes, I'm using Windows, version 8 Pro 64bit. I prefer not to install Base, because I read that it requires Java, and I don't trust much Java, since there seem to be a lot of security issues appearing. Can you confirm that Base requires Java, which will be automatically installed during LibreOffice's installation? Thanks. MyISAM does not enforce foreign key relationships, this has to be accomplished by the user with programming logic or the UI frontend. If you are using LO Base, then this can only be enforced via macro/scripting language, because the UI takes the db driver defaults and does not enforce either referential integrity or relationships. Even if you choose a db storage engine that supports referential integrity and backend controlled relationships, the LO UI currently seems to promise things it can't actually deliver with db backends other than the builtin hsqldb engine. [libreoffice-users] Downloader Not Working
Hey All, I get a 404 error from the libre office download server. I've tried from two different Win XP machines and from my CentOS machine. All are running Fire Fox. Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: Paste of Dates Incorrect in Calc
Update, This appears to be the issue. Thanks! The original source for the data in the spreadsheet was from Excel from about 15 years ago. Since then it's been through a bunch of upgrades to MS Office, StarOffice, OpenOffice and LibreOffice on several different systems both Mac and PC and across many operating system revisions. Once I got the base dates set to match in the new spreadsheets the dates work as expected. On the Mac it's changed in Preferences, Calc, Calculate over on the right hand side of the window, in case anyone else is looking for the Tools link mentioned in the help web site. Now I'm trying to figure out if there is a way to write some sort of Macro to change the dates so I can set the day zero to be the now standard one of 12/30/1899 and update my spreadsheets. The volume of them and the legacy data may make it impossible. Anyway, thanks for solving my problem. On May 12, 2013, at 3:09 PM, Steve Edmonds wrote: Hi. Take a look at https://help.libreoffice.org/3.6/Calc/Date_and_Time_Functions To me the difference you are getting looks close to the difference between the date bases for day zero. That's because there is no such file, of course. In any case, if you deleted it, you would hardly be changing it: you'd be losing it! Much better to solve your problem through the product's interface - wherever possible. Untitled 1 is merely the (temporary) name given to a new document before it is saved - from whatever template. If you are somehow dissatisfied with such a document, you are presumably unhappy with the template from which it is created. If you are knowingly creating it from a specific template, the solution is: don't! If you are not, then you must have set some alternative or modified template as your default. To reset the default template to the original default, simply go to File | Templates | Organize... | Commands | Reset Default Template | Text Document. There is no need to wreck your other settings and customisations. I trust this helps. It's a widely discussed issue for some time. Steve I don't know what OS is being used here, but if Linux, then CUPS allows a default printer to be selected. When selected in CUPS, this printer should be the default printer that is highlighted in the LO print dialog. Optionally, printer and printer settings can be changed on a per-document basis by using the File - Printer Settings option in LO. Once that is set and the document saved, all subsequent loading of that document should have the same printer settings as when last saved. Oh, one must also select Tools - Options - Load Save - General and select Load printer settings with the document to enable this behavior. One downside of this is if the document is sent to someone else, it will still try to print on the now-nonexistent printer, or the wrong printer if still on the same LAN. In that case, the settings could be changed or use Ctrl-P to bring up the print dialog and change the printer/settings. I use this feature for printing envelopes repeatedly, which require different printer settings than documents. Works for me. If the save icon is grayed out when you try to save the document printer settings, just add and delete something anywhere in the document and it should be enabled again. Hope this helps.
