Brian Barker manythanks Brian and all the others, it helped me to know why I wasn't able to delete a carriage return/paragraph mark, it was becouse the two paragraph marks were in two different cells with the separation border hidden, so the two cells appeared like as they were a single cell with two paragraphs, nothing highlight/stand out the presence of a hidden border that split the two cells, even if you set to on the "show non printable character". I don't know if it is a bug but it is a very misleading behaviour, in the past I remember a subtle dotted border to identify a cell and I think it would be better to reintroduce it, also only in "show non printable characters" set on. thanks again :-) ciao :-) pier -- To unsubscribe e-mail to: users+unsubscr...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/users/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted

I'm not even ordinarily noble - certainly not marvellously so - and I was only ordinarily bred; will I do? ...enough noble to be opensource knight...:-) :-) The first character in the text string is the slash that you are looking for. A string in square brackets matches any single character which appears in that string. But if the first character is a circumflex (as here), it matches any single character *not* in that string. So leftbracket-circumflex-slash-rightbracket matches any single character other than a slash. The asterisk following this pattern causes a match with zero or more characters (as many as possible, in fact) preceding it - in this case the bracketed string. So the bracketed part followed by the asterisk together match as many characters as possibly not including a slash. The dollar sign locks the pattern to the end of a paragraph - in this case, the end of the entire text in the cell. So the whole string finds a slash followed by many not-slash characters, but only at the end of the string. As you say, that means everything from the last slash in the string to the end. The SEARCH() function then returns the position of the start of the matched text: the position of the last slash. thank you very much, I understood now, and I will better study regular expressions...:-) as you know is there some way to start search from the right of strings?? ...a couple of beer paid for you...:-) :-) :-) How kind! So, can you create a copy of the file as it is so that if anything else goes wrong with it then at least you have this new back-up? 2. Are there older versions of the file that you can go back to? 3. Are you also having troubles with other files or is it just this one? 4. It's vaguely possible that it's your install of LibreOffice. 1st thing is to rename your user-profile to see if that changes anything useful https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Documentation/UserProfile Any better yet? 5. If you go to Tools - Options - Memory then you can boost the amount of memory that LO can use for various things. It's defaults are quite low because LibreOffice is often used on far lower-spec machines than yours. 6. If you used the package manager to install then try it's repair broken packages feature. However LibreOffice is an exception to the usual rule and it's often better to download LibreOffice from upstream directly from the LibreOffice website rather than install a tweaked version from a distro's repos. Have you been able to check your download was ok? Md5sum or Sha should be easy to check but if not (if, like me, you don't know how to) then perhaps just re-download and re-install. 7. Can you try an earlier version of LibreOffice? The 3.5.7 would be a good one to try. The higher that 3rd digit the more stable the release tends to be. Usually past x.x.4 the difference is fairly minor and the 3.6.x branch has already reached a high enough 3rd digit for it to be unlikely to have any problems. The advantage of the newer branch is better compatibility with MS formats and greater functionality. Neither of those sounds important for you right now though. 8. Unlikely I guess, but it's all that comes to mind right now. Ten minutes is outlandish by any standards IMO unless there's a glitch in Calc. You could check the bug list at the LO site.
