Like, you send a message into kannel, then you receive a message back which contains the response from your web page, is that right? Cheers, Iain

French characters
Hi List, According to the GSM 03.38 encoding spec. The characters listed below should be sendable using the GSM encoding. @£$¥èéùìòØøÅå_FGST?ÆæßÉ !#¤%'()*+,-./0123456789:;=?¡ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZÄÖÑܧ¿abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzäöñüà^{}\[~]|€ I’m however unable to send most French , Latin or Greek characters using kannel. In particular I’m unable to send the following characters - Èéùìò äöñüàäöñüàØøÅå_F Is there anyone who is successfully sending French / Latin /Greek characters using Kannel with GSM encoding? Could you please post a configuration which works ..? Kind regards.

Kannel store/queue
Hi! I'm trying to find out the default behavior of Kannel when no store or spool is defined. I have a system that, using HTTP requests to Kannel, send SMS's to end users. The typical usage is around a few hundred SMS's per day. Because my system is now about to be upgraded, I shut down the daemon that sends the requests to Kannel, but unfortunately that was not enough to stop sending SMS's because Kannel seemed to throttle and queue the requests, spreading out messages 24hrs after that until I shut down /etc/init.d/kannel. There are no stores in my /etc/kannel/kannel.conf Neither store-type nor store-location is defined in it. Will Kannel keep a persistent disk queue somewhere anyway? I need to make sure Kannel has no queue or pending messages when I start the daemon. How can I do that? I'm using 1.4.1-2, Debian Lenny. BR, Ulf Software Engineer Purple Scout www.purplescout.com

Re: Mysql Timestamp issue
Hi Are you using SMPP? If so then the ts field although it would seem is a timestamp but it acutally maps to the unique ID provided by the SMSC for that message. I asked this question a little while ago and that was the answer I got and it seems to be correct from my testing. The group can correct me if I am wrong. Do you have any idea on french characters ? i don't, but there has been a lot of discussion in the past on this list regarding greek characters and a few very vocal and helpful members of the list and dev team (if i'm mistaken, sorry!) are greek so you might try googling around a bit more because all the mailing lists are publicly available. Re: Mysql Timestamp issue
Firstly that table is for use by Kannel as a storage so that you do not lose any DLR if the box goes down. If you want more information for DLRs when sending sms you need to append the dlr-url parameter to the end of the URL that you are using. Also make sure that you are using the dlr-mask parameter. In that URL you can specify what information you would like posted back. Please see the user guide for details. Re: Mysql Timestamp issue
Hi, No, ts is the single most important value for dlr matching. Can't do it without it. Could be an issue with message-id-type, but your description doesn't make any sense. Listen, if you ask for help you need to post detailed smsc logs as i asked in a previous mail. Re: Kannel store/queue
Hi, Simple answer. You can't. SMS is asynchronous, therefore multiple queues have been implemented. Even if you don't have a file queue, Kannel still has a lot of memory queues. By typeing Ctrl-C twice, kannel will die immediately, but you will loose all pending SMS in memory. You should have a file storage. In fact having all sms in memory is causing kannel to delay, since it tries to process these SMS before quitting. File storage doesn't affect that behaviour, and on top of that will preserve SMS if you try a double Ctrl-C. Configure store-type as spool. If you still get problems shutting down, please post maximum detail bb logs of your shutdown attempt. BR, Nikos - Original Message - From: Ulf Urden ulf.ur...@purplescout.se To: users@kannel.org Sent: Thursday, July 15, 2010 11:47 AM Subject: Kannel store/queue Hi!
If *ALL *the sm_submit_resp PDUs are coming back from the SMSC with the exact same ts value then I would suggest that SMSC is at fault. The ts value works perfectly for me and the SMSC I use. Perhaps I am wrong and the group can correct me. You sent us 2 lines from the log so I cannot see if *EVERY *message you send to your SMSC is getting the same SMSC ID of 10. Can you test with a couple of sends and attach the logs. Is smsbox needed in my config?
Looking for some advice. Kannel is running very happily for me with sqlbox being used for all message handling. I queue MTs by inserting into the sql-insert-table and DLRs and MO handled by a process monitoring the sql-log-table, pulling and processing message rows as they arrive. I have no need for HTTP message submission, Kannel initiated reply SMS or DLR handling via URL calls. In this situation, is there any reason that I still need to run smsbox, or should I be ok with just bearerbox and sqlbox running? From what I have understand from the architecture documentation, smsbox handles HTTP calls for message submission, and processes message arrivals by either replying or calling a URL. I'm thinking I can do away with it. On a side note, the main reason I'm looking at shutting smsbox down is that I'm using the dlr_url field to store my internal message ID - this works well as I can specify it during message submission and it makes its way into the sql-log-table, giving me a reliable correlation between the DLR and the original message without having to do any other matching. The only side effect I've noticed about this setup is smsbox logging an error when each DLR is received complaining that the dlr_url is malformed as it doesn't start with http:// or https://. Rather than patching smsbox to ignore this condition, I am thinking that shutting it down altogether might be a better approach. Any comments? Thanks, Toby.
Re: French characters
Hi, The obvious answer would be to use utf-8. However that is very inefficient since you waiste about half of your available chars. There has been a patch by Stipe, which will convert any non-ASCII chars to non used GSM chars as per GSM-3.38, but it is offered to him as part of kannel CG. We are using this without problems for Greek in our commercial applications. I am not sure of the copyright status. @Stipe: AFAIK the GSM-3.38 patch has not made it to opensource kannel. What are the copyrights to it? Hi, There is no option from kannel to bind client smsc connections to a specific interface. You will have to do it via routing from your OS. In your sendsms you will have to specify smsc=smsc1. Hi, 1) You have not posted *any* submit_sm pdus (the ones you are trying to send) as requested. 2) Your SMSc is right. It is you fault. Where did you find ts = 10? 3) Fix your msg-id-type. Re: Mysql Timestamp issue
Hi Sorry my experience is very limited so someone better than me is going to have to respond. From what I can see it looks like the SMSC keeps sending you delivery receipts and Kannel is acknowledging them so no problem there. The problem it seems is Kannel cannot find a particular DLR in the temporary table for the given arguments. In particular it seems to be looking for DLR from the SMSC with an id given to it by the SMSC of 4294967295 (or the ts values). I am not sure if this is the case and why Kannel keeps retrying that one or how to reset it. @Nikos: Sorry I tried to help but I think your wisdom is needed. Mine is not enough and I might be totally off the target. :) Regards, 2010/7/15 Nikos Balkanas nbalka...@gmail.com Hi, 1) You have not posted *any* submit_sm pdus (the ones you are trying to send) as requested. 2) Your SMSc is right. So to my understanding he wants to purge the queue before starting Kannel. Ulf: Can you clarify your question? Hi! Yes, sorry my question was a bit unclear. I'll rephrase: my system sent out SMS's it shouldn't have. Not Kannels fault, it did what it supposed to do. But before I start the Kannel daemon again I want to purge any pending messages. Maybe I don't need to? I interpret Nikos' reply as Kannel only keeps messages in memory if no store/spool is defined. If that is the case the messages would have been purged when shutting down Kannel? Thanks for all the help, btw! BR, Ulf.
