 Hi

 I'm having a problem that looks like Kannel's SMS box HTTP listener is
 locking up.

 I've been running some load tests on Kannel, sending out 30K messages over a
 short space of time.

 I am running Kannel version 1.5.0 under Windows using Cygwin. I have no
 problem
 if it is running on my Windows 7 laptop, 32 bit 2.68G RAM, 2.53GHz. However,
 when it is running on one of our servers it locks up after about 24K messages.
 The server is Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise x64 Edition SP2, 2GHz with 8G
 RAM.

 The only difference between the two is the Kannel configuration file which
 points the log files to different places in the file system. Both instances
 of
 Kannel were compiled from the same source code on the target machines using
 the
 latest version of Cygwin.

 The server isn't under a heavy load. It is also running IIS.

 After Kannel locks up there are no further entries added to its log files and
 from what I've found the only solution is to stop and restart it. There
 doesn't
 appear to be anything additional logged from the server that isn't logged from
 my laptop.

 Has anyone else seen anything like this before? Any clues to what may be the
 cause or possible solutions would be greatly appreciated.

 I can post logs and config file if needed.

Cygin's pthreads, which Kannel uses heavily is NOT(!) stable. That's the simple
reason. This is BTW also the reason why Cygwin never packaged the mysql server.
So, there is NO way to use Kannel on Cygwin for real production use.

Ok, getting closer. Basically just about everything is working except that only
one of my short codes is being routed to SMSC #3. I have the parameter:

allowed-prefix = ;1112

under SMSC #3, but only short code is being delivered to it. Anything
going to 1112 is being sent back out SMSC #1 or SMSC #2.

Also, how to prioritize messages to be sent to SMSC #1 over SMSC #2?

Thanks,
Brian

 For inter-smsc routing, check the reroute-receiver option of group = smsc.

 Subject: SMSBox Routing Question

 Ok, I have proceed a little further and I am now confused on the routing
 setup. I'm having trouble understanding exactly how the smsbox-route groups
 work along with the smsbox group.

 I currently have three SMSCs configured.

 Two are to my upstream carrier and they are smpp connections:

 # SMSC 1:
 group = smsc
 smsc = smpp
 smsc-id = ATTSTC
 host = 20.10.5.100
 port = 9000
 receive-port = 9000
 smsc-username = TE
 smsc-password = TE
 system-type = VMA
 address-range =
 reconnect-delay = 50
 msg-id-type = 1

 # SMSC 2:
 group = smsc
 smsc = smpp
 smsc-id = ATTVTC
 host = 20.10.6.100
 port = 9000
 receive-port = 9000
 smsc-username = TE
 smsc-password = TE
 system-type = VMA
 address-range =
 reconnect-delay = 50
 msg-id-type = 1

 I am able to bind to both of these and send and receive without any
 problems.

 The third smsc is my customer running Kannel at another location:

 # SMSC 3:
 group = smsc
 smsc = http
 system-type = kannel
 smsc-id = LBSMS1
 smsc-username = TE
 smsc-password = TE
 port = 9001
 send-url = http://smstest.lb.com:9001/;
 connect-allow-ip = 20.8.8.10;127.0.0.1

 I would like to route anything that is coming TO either of two short codes
 (ie, and 1112) to SMSC #3. So basically anything inbound from my
 upstream provider SMSC #1 and SMSC #2 and also anything from my local
 sendsms-user:

 group = sendsms-user
 username = ku
 password = x
 concatenation= true
 max-messages = 10

 that is destined for or 1112 will be sent to SMSC3. Anything else needs
 to be sent to SMSC #1 first and then if that is unavailable send to SMSC #2.

 Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

 Thanks,
 Brian

RE: get-url checklist

2008-04-15 Thread Srikant Jallapuram
Hi Ricardo,

Where does the kannel pick up the content from like ringtones and the
images? We have also been trying for the same configuration that was
being reported earlier. Is there a configuration in kannel which
specifies the directory location from where this fakemsc will pick up
the images and send it to the handset?

Please let us know.

Thanks in Advance,

Srikanth

Hi,

I am very new to Kannel as well. Your configuration seems fine to me..

Anyway, to configure the fakesmsc you need to create an entry in you
kannel.conf

# SMSC Fake
group = smsc
smsc = fake
smsc-id = 1
port = 13013

Then you must find the fakesmsc executable. Its location depends on
your distro but basically to execute it just run this:

./fakesmsc -z 7 -m 2 -r 13013 123rand 345rand text nop rand

The -r means the port in case it's not the default one (I think its port
1 but in my distro it's already being used). If you just run

./fakesmsc

you will find the meaning of the other command line switches.

Best Regards.

Yes, you are right. And we are not using real devices but software phone
simulators with WAP/SMS capabilities over IP.

Thanks,

The fakesmsc doesn't communicate with real devices. It's just for
testing without having to use real connections. :)

Rudimentary question for sharing images...

2008-04-09 Thread Srikant Jallapuram

Hi Kannel Users,

I have a VERY rudimentary question here. The following is the scenario.

I have a WAP Client on my PC(jWAP) and Kannel WAP Box installed on a different
Linux machine.
Now I plan to make a WAP GET Request to the WAP Box on the Linux PC.
Assuming that I am able to make a proper WAP Request with a proper syntax, what
changes do I need to make in the configuration of WAP Box in order to process
such WAP GET Request for fetching an image from the WAPBox?
Is there a directory where I can dump all the images and binary files etc. from
where WAPBox goes and picks up these files from when it gets a WAP GET Request
from a WAP Client?

Any HELP on this front would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Srikanth
